possible posting problems in the weekend

Post by mare_serenitatis » Thu Sep 13, 2007 4:56 pm

I'm going to try out a hack that might hopefully prevent all these spammers from registering. Since I must edit many files, it is very likely that you might get error messages or slow reactions from the board while I am tinkering with the software.
I'll try to work at times where nobody else is online so that the negative effects for you stay as small as possible.

Thanks for the heads up Mare.

You might want to see what's up with the PM system while our at it.
I selected 3 messages to delete cause my box was getting a little choaked and all of my messages are gone.
One good thing, it will be a while before I have to worry about it being too full again.

How come if I'm admin, I don't have unlimited space for PMs?

LOL you mean like garden gnomes? *ducks and runs*

D, the message space is equally big for everyone. I can't make it larger for only one group of people.

I'll install a feature in the weekend that allows you to export all or several messages as a text file. I can't believe I overlooked it when I installed the special features here. We've been having it over at SDG for years.

ooooookay, the PM export thingy is installed and working.

Next to inbox/senbox/outbox/savebox you'll now find a button that says "export".

If you go into any of the boxes (in/out/sent/save) and click the export button, a new window opens with all the PMs from the respective box.
Please mind that this will be all messages, it's not possible to export anindividual message.

You can now print this new browser window or save it to your harddrive as a *.txt, *.html *.mht or any other file type your browser and you can agree upon.

I'm afraid it's a bit primitive but this hack was invented for Admins who get a lot of PMs and want to make a hardcopy.

========================

I also installed a hack that (hopefully) will keep most of the damned spammers off out board. It works only with bots, though. If a real person tries to pester us with porn links, he or she can still register and we must delete the account manually, as we have been doing up to now anyway.

1. Don't you harp on my size! I'm small but great ...
2. No, not like garden gnomes. More like the Chinese clay warriors :D --- or maybe like Lot's wife :(

And thank you for cobbling up the board :!:

"Export" sounds like a quick fix, if it worked.
I don't have the option on my screen even after a hard refresh.

Back to the drawing board?
