Delayed PMs

Post by Sci-Fi Girl » Fri May 21, 2010 2:08 pm

When I send a PM it goes in my outbox for a while before it gets sent off to the recipient. This can be helpful because it gives me time to edit if I need to fix something. Most of the time the message is sent within five minutes after I push send. But sometimes it takes hours. On April 27 I sent a message in the middle of the night, and it did not actually leave my outbox until six hours later, the next morning. Since then everything seemed to work fine, but a few days ago I sent a message in the afternoon and almost four hours later it was still in my outbox, not my sent box. It was finally sent five hours after I actually "sent" it. What's going on here? :| :?

SFG
And the nightwind greets him like a lover;
Her cold fingers brush against his cheek
Then she chases papers down the street
Past doorways, where lovers meet
And huddle in the night

that's no bug but just a misunderstanding, as far as I can see.
The message stays in your outbox until the recipient opens it. Only when the message has been read, it will get moved to your sent box. It's programmed like this deliberately, so that an user always knows whether the recipient has already read the message.

My appologies for this extremely delayed reply. I totally overlooked the post *blush* :oops:

Oh, OK! That makes a lot of sense! And it sounds useful too, now that I understand what is happening.

Thank you! :smooch:
