Re: What Dreams May Come.

Started off in an open square with a team of people (don't know who) doing some kind of recovery mission. I had a large pack on my back. At some point, we had to either scramble through a tunnel or go over a bridge, and due to the dangers of the bridge, my team chose the tunnel. Problem was, it was ...

Hyperlight 11 - A Melody Played

The Sol branch of the EDF Academy is sending its second year cadets to explore the frontiers of known territory, under the guidance of experienced crews and captains. The Sikara Meritocracy sends along a science ship and a Defence Army vessel with each squadron, as part of an interstellar initiative...

Re: Star Trek: Picard (aka ST:P)

I wonder if ST: Discovery will learn this lesson in its upcoming season 3. S3 is giving us a Federation on the brink of breaking up, or maybe even pretty much gone. They're a thousand years in the future, and there's clips of the new captain holding a Federation pennant with only a few stars left. ...

Re: Check-In 103: Lawrencium, Indian emergency

Looks like the UK is now on lockdown. No gatherings of more than 2 people excluding those you live with, no leaving the house except for medical need, one form of exercise per day, shopping for basic necessities or essential travel to/from work. All but essential shops and parks (for exercise only) ...

Re: Doctor Who Series 12

Sometimes they wrap it up, sometimes not. The ending of Tennant's first season had Donna appear on the TARDIS, which was then resolved in The Runaway Bride, and you normally get a first look at the next doctor at the end of the previous season - Matt Smith nearly destroyed his TARDIS control room ri...

Re: Doctor Who Series 12

Not last night. Honestly I found that to be a very messy first half of the episode, and it was a struggle to figure out what was going on. In medias res can work if done well, but that wasn't. It doesn't help that they see the need to play music over every last bit of dialogue, which just makes it h...

Re: Doctor Who Series 12

^Not necessarily. Aside from 3 and 4, before Ecclestone the Doctor rarely got into the lives of companions' Earth-bound associates. The friends have always been from all over the timeline and galaxy, too - contrast Jamie, Leela, Adric, Nyssa, Tegan, Turlough, Captain Jack... you get the picture. But...

Re: Doctor Who Series 12

There were rumblings that they wanted to do a pre-Hartnell all-female cycle to even the numbers out and have some way s/he simply forgot about them. I've also heard the parallel Doctor theory. At this stage we don't have enough to go on but I think it's a forgotten cycle.

Book 12 chapter 1 is written. :D

I just tested posting and deleting the entire text of Hyperlight Alliance (125k words) and it worked fine, so I guess there's no longer a limit.

Re: Author's Thread #12

OK, having now gone through my character list I have swapped some genders around. We now have 654 total, of which 320 are female, 310 are male, 10 are neuter. Appearance-wise, all stories have about an even split between men and women. :) The problem was as I suspected a tendency for me to default t...

Re: Check-In 102: 2020 in Hindsight.

So at the Fringe last year, there was one member of our team with cerebral palsy who I tended to walk beside when we were going from place to place. Originally I wanted to make sure she was safe as Edinburgh's roads and sidewalks are nasty, but I lost track of the times I stumbled and she steadied m...

Re: Doctor Who Series 12

^ Yes, he could send a message to Gallifrey via a mentally conjured cube in Troughton's last serial, we saw Pertwee and Tom Baker using mind stuff, we've seen multi doctor stories where they combined forces telepathically, Tennant wiped Donna's memory of him... https://tardis.fandom.com/wiki/Telepathy

Re: Author's Thread #12

Just 55 characters to be put into my Access database... nearly there! The EDF ones are tough because I need to put in their records (like where they were serving in different books - there's a fair amount of moving around). That also means I have to decide where "vanished" characters like Erivex are...

Some Hyperlight stats as we go into 2020... Including Book 11 and Alliance, as well as background information that I generated just in case the books needed it, there are some 894 scenes across 516 chapters. I have mentioned over 650 characters, belonging to 27 sentient species. I've named 52 worlds...

Re: Author's Thread #12

It won't be random, there'll be something behind the scenes - are you using a lot of forward slashes (/example text/)? Two of those, even if they're some distance apart, might cause seemingly random italicisation. :) Alternatively it may be related to your default styles: https://wordribbon.tips.net...
