Re: The Orville - Season Two -- SPOILERS

Oh, yeah, I saw those posts. The answer is probably just that the trunk isn't really attached. In addition to his second esophagus, he's got a second mouth and he keeps the trunk inserted most of the time. I note that The Lads have a tough time getting into shirts with their mono-attached trunks [I...

Re: The Orville - Season Two -- SPOILERS

It's a shame. It's really such a pity to be looking at this board, not looking at the city.

 If anyone gets that

Re: Science Tidbits #5

Not a JUG of Twisted Tea, I hope. Oh well, allowing for seasonal adaptation (definitely missing this year), this may be the first good snowstorm we've had since 2017. Go for it. (However, looking at the snapshot that YouTube chose, I can't help but recall that "Thought" was my nickname from '83-'86.)

Re: 2019's Funny Pictures -- Feel Free to Add to the Fun

Dawn of the Dead at the Orson Welles and Rocky Horror at Exeter Street. :D Both gone now, of course. I think they both burned down. I didn't know about Dawn of the Dead (and I lived a couple of blocks from the Orson Welles for years!). Or maybe I did and ignored it b/c zombies are definitely not my...

Re: Trunkards III: The Search For Slim

Yeah, we had something like that when I was kid.

We called it "that tree by the driveway". Bees in the summer, robins and flowers in spring, pine cone-type things in the fall (it was actually a very tall gardenia shrub)

https://img-9gag-fun.9cache.com/photo/aj897P1_460s.jpg This is kinda how I felt when I saw Carrie Fisher in "Blues Brothers". I once had a conversation with a younger person whose memories of Blues Brothers were no hazier than mine, but because they hadn't seen both films at the peak of their popul...

I dunno. Even if the approval polls are heavily skewed, he does seem to have a sizeable plurality who approve of him. Meanwhile, though I know we have an election coming next year, I'm thinking of organizing a small escape from the Trump-verse to the Wakanda-verse. I realize this may mark me as a tr...

Re: Funny/Humorous YouTube Videos

The first line of The Fall Guy 's theme song always puzzled me: "Well, I'm not the kind to kiss and tell, but I've been seen with Farrah". Given that Lee and Farrah had separated the year before he signed up for The Fall Guy . I always wondered if the studio had to talk him into accepting that line ...

It's highly metaphysical, like the Catholic's transubstantiation: before the Great Release, Moclan, but during the Great Release, European.

When I saw "Trump World" I thought of that old Jackson Browne song:

as a vacation park for
lawyers in love."

Re: Breaking (And Repairing) NEWS!

I understood the business reasons for choosing to renew Killjoys over Dark Matter, but it was the wrong choice SF-wise. Dark Matter's universe ws getting more interesting, while KIlljoy's S4 finale would've been fine as a series finale. All through S4, I was thinking "Really? This show needed to be ...

Love that Caesar pencil holder  I donated similar units to the front desk of my hackerspace several years ago, except they were Spartan warriors with pen-holes penetrating their shields from the front vs. Caesar from the rear. At the time, I was volunteering to run the front desk on Wednesday ...

https://img-9gag-fun.9cache.com/photo/a4Qd5z1_460s.jpg I have a friend who couldn't mention "Vlad the Impaler" without chortling "but you don't want to Google that. Re: Science Tidbits #5

It's been a running joke in anthropology. longer than I've been alive, that any unknown object will eventually be ascribed a ritual/religious function (until its true function is identified). To be fair, I think that was much more common in the 19th/early 20th century and decreased over my lifetime....

Re: Check-In Thread #92: Pentagonal Uranium

We don't get many tornados here, but the ones that we do get sneak up on us in the middle of the night. We had one before the 2016 elections -- just an ordinary rainstorm at 3:20am (I was awake a couple of miles away and noticed nothing unusual) when suddenly, a silent finger of god damaged a mere 3...

Yeah, over the decades I've learned TOO many times: "PHP (or any application level language) is for unsurpassed convenience (but can take up to an hour on massive, unexpected/unoptimized tasks). Command line is for performance. Unsurpassed performance? Eff it: it'll take longer to write a program th...
