Re: Check-In #98: How have you been?

good afternoon :) Just in case you were wondering where I vanished to, here 's the explanation. There were a lot of preparations to make. Last week and today we sampled fish (and it's a complete coincidence that I'll have fish for supper today. Honest. Tomorrow and the day after I'll be samp...

Re: Check-In #98: How have you been?

^eeks, that's terrible. It seems to be stench-season: upon coming home an hour ago I noted a halitosis-like smell from my pantry and haven't managed to discover the cause yet. Nothing in there reeked that badly, but maybe it was the combination of the rotting kohlrabi, an overripe cucumber and a mum...

while he's out he can make himself useful and buy some of your favourite chocolate! My MRI results came today: my spine is in top shape for my age. So my back pains must be muscular. The orthopedist prescribed 18 months (!) of gymnastics. I hope my insurance refuses to ok that. I'm far too lazy! :p ...

same here, only unfortunately our nights are hotter. The forecast predicts 110 for tomorrow. Luckily, I'll be sampling up in the mountains tomorrow where there is more shade and less heat. And it's only 6 streams - we should be finished before 3 pm when the heat gets unbearable.

Good morning all :) Apparently there was a huge storm last night and I didn't hear anything at all. I did wake up, though, when my mp3 player's battery ran empty and the audiobook suddenly stopped LOL! It's a wonderful cloudy and cool morning now and I opened all windows to let the hot air out. Oh s...

Re: Who's here? Let yourselves be known.

What's the German word for tumbleweed? I'm afraid we have none as the plant doesn't grow in Europe. Some botanists call it Bodenläufer (ground-runner) or Bodenroller (ground-roller) but both don't describe the herb's locomotion even half as well as the English name. With the right software it might...

Re: The Mars Thread

That was unavoidable. Since science proved a few decades ago that space is finite after all, and since every quantity must have it's opposite quantity to keep the cosmic balance, nature had to come up with something infinite and invented a source of infinite stupidity.

Re: What's for Breakfast?

I woke up at 4:45 and had a sort of breakfast-prequel: a slice of whole meal bread with a tbsp of ketchup, slices of boiled egg and a bit of lettuce. Just returned from the market and now I'll have proper breakfast: I'll make a batch of scones =) With cream and bramble jam and a pot of assam-tea wit...

^that's pretty much like I feel every morning :D What SQL type are we on? I'm guessing MySQL? If so, and you get a table crash again, you can try: repair table sessions. Or replace sessions with whatever has crashed. That way you don't need to drop and reload the table. Yes, MySQL. There used to be ...

Re: sorry :(

the table itself is rather small but has to store a lot of different data. For those who are interested in how the board works it's these parameters: session_id - the number of your current session session_user_id - your user number (users are numbered in the database in the order in which they regi...

sorry :(

I'm sorry the board was offline this morning. A table in the database crashed. Thank heavens it was just a small and rather unimportant one so that we didn't lose posts or even accounts. Unfortunately, my office's firewall blocks all private sites so that I could access the server only just now, aft...

Re: roy's latest project - worth checing out

I agree. It's also shocking: neon colours that hurt the eyes vs the gentle colours of nature, artificial lights vs the night sky, hectic city life vs surroundings in which nothing moves, not even an ant. And the latter is particularly unsettling, from the pov of a biologist. That desert is man-made....

strawberries
cream
milk
cheese
a baguette
a can of peaches
smoked ham
a pound of minced meat
and a water melon plant the size of a matchbox =) If this year gets as tropical as the last two I might get a good harvest.

Re: Check-in Thread #97: Berkelium Kurt

good evening. Pheeew, I'm exhausted. Last weekend I started tidying my attic. I found I have 3 moving crates of wool and 5 crates of old clothes. My washing machine is almost glowing and I still have washed only about 2/3. Most will go to the charity shop but a few items might fit me again. My study...

Re: Happy Birthday Thread: May The 4 Be With you

that sucks! The solution I chanced upon just now sucks even more:
You have to uncheck the check box right after the size settings for all smilies except for those you're adding. It takes rather a bit of time, I'm afraid.

Re: Happy Birthday Thread: May The 4 Be With you

they come from the same site the other green smilies originate from. How did you try to install new smilies? As far as I can see the first step required is to upload the smilies to the server. Then from the ACP you can add those in the board's smilie folder. There are about 50 on the server which are...

Welcome home, Scottydog :) I'd like to apologize for my fellow Germans' bad English. Please don't give up the country alltogether. It's different in other parts of the country, but while most Bavarians tend to have a very strong accent, they still can all speak a bit of English and enjoy contact wit...

cloudy but rather warm with temps around 23°C. We had a moderate shower last night which was to be expected as I had watered my neighbour's tomato plants.
