Re: Author's Check-In #3
Endings are easy. Choices: 1. Unsatisfying conclusion to illustrate the ennui by which human reality is characterized (don't try unless it's literary fiction, or you're European) 2. Everyone lives, except the villain. If the villain lives they are banished or reformed. The protagonist reunites with ...

Re: Author's Check-In #3
Anyone else terrified to write the climax? I'm scared that I'm gonna somehow fuck up all that I've been building to. Don't worry, just slog through. I rewrote my climax three times before it was right, and wouldn't have been able to get to that 'right' place unless I'd gone through those other draf...

Re: Author's Check-In #3
^ Yep, pretty much.
I've had a little more luck. I need to learn just to write through the issues, and know I can always revise tomorrow (or later). My problem is that I need it to be too perfect too soon. And that's just not realistic.

Re: Author's Check-In #3
This new book is K I L L I N G M E. In a good way. Sort of. I'm certainly enjoying it. But it's demanding the world be utterly fleshed out before I make a decent start. And just because that's how I roll, that means the world is hella complicated. I just want to get to writing but I know the world-b...

Re: Author's Check-In #3
^Are you having any luck with agents? Haven't sent it out yet. I'm still writing my marketing materials and doing agent research, and am devoting most of my time to getting the next book started so that's humming along by the time I'm waiting to hear back from agents. I figured it's best to have so...

Re: Author's Check-In #3
Wow, they really loved the reading! One guy I was sitting with (a screenwriter who's won awards) said to me, "You're in a league above us all. You're going to be very rich." I'm flattered. I'd prefer to be read than rich, but I'm flattered

Re: Sea Creature Lounge Radio Special: The Blue Cowl!
This was so good! I'm really happy to have contributed, but even happier to hear how it all came together and especially the actual voices of folks here who I've known for years (but never heard). RJ, you have such a wonderful voice, Mr. Narrator!

Reading a selection from my next book WHEN THE CLOUDS TOUCH THE EARTH at a writer's meeting tonight. Excited. It's still a little rough, but it'll be nice to read something new.

Re: Author's Check-In #3
^Notes. Tons and tons of notes. When working on a book I have notes on languages (sometimes making small dictionaries), histories, locations, sometimes I draw maps- and I keep it all near so I can reference it. Oh, of course! My Scrivener binder is stuffed with notes, neatly organized. Even with th...
