^I saw that. There's been a growing push to eliminate the Electoral College, but I doubt well see much movement on this as it would need bipartisan agreement. That won't happen until a Republican loses because of that.

It takes a while for reforms of this magnitude to catch on. I've been advocating for it for decades, but I've never seen it getting this much attention. It really needs to go on the ballot so that people can vote on it.

This is actually the second time (that I can remember off the top of my head) that Fox has slapped back at Trump. It could be a sign that his Cult status is slipping, but it's a little too early to tell about that.

He's also got two, and maybe three, real Republicans running against him for the nomination. One wild card element is if someone like Bill Weld wants him out bad enough to run as a third candidate-- that would virtually guarantee a democratic win.

^ I hope you''re right. Voter turnout is crucial for the Dems. And voter suppression is crucial for the GOP.

I wonder about that. He's got a hard-core base, but I don't think it's that large. And you've got those reliables who will always vote anti-Democrat no matter what. But I think that a lot of Right-Wing voters and Right-leaning independents are appalled by The Donald and will stay home. We'll see....

Trump's now making up weather reports.

Remember the good old days when this would have ended a Presidency?

I find myself not too terribly excited by this. The investigation will piddle along for a month or a few months. It will go to the Senate where if McConnell even brings it to a vote, Trump will be acquitted. Then we'll have to go into the next election with Trump proclaiming "Total and complete exoneration!".
The problem is that Trump controls all the levels of legal power in the country. He can and will obstruct to the point where Joe Public will assume that the House couldn't find anything, which will be bolstered by Fox news (who are already claiming this is actually all about Biden's corruption).

It's certainly unlikely that he'll be removed from office, especially with Republicans in the Senate. But it's never happened before, so it would be unlikely in any case. It's an incredibly extreme action. But the election is only thirteen months away, so he could end up spending much of his campaign time testifying, which would not only bring all of his misbehavior front and center during the run-up to the election, but also add the public's Donald Fatigue. It will be interesting, in any case.

Donald Fatigue is the best we can hope for. Most of his supporters already know what kind of person he is and they don't care.

I wonder how large that demographic really is, though.

I had another interesting thought today. I'm not sure how the impeachment and removal process is actually spelled out in the Constitution, or if the Senate defines the terms of removal in their judgement, so this may not even be an issue: But suppose the hearings and then the impeachment and the trial drag on for months and he is finally removed from office at some point, say next Summer-- and then wins the election. Would he be allowed to take office or would he be prohibited from ever holding office again?

^That's a heady thought. The timeline makes this possible: go through an impeachment trial in the Senate who convicts him (unlikely, but lets run with it), but this happens in the midst of the election and he's reelected after his removal.
Technically I guess he would be allowed to return to office as there's no rule I'm aware of that would prevent him from doing so and no mechanism that could legally stop him. Still it's a bit of a moot point as I still doubt that the Senate will convict. This is drawing more blood than I thought it would, but that's likely due to the GOP being caught a bit flatfooted by this- most likely thinking that the Democrats wouldn't actually pull the trigger.

Bernie Sanders had to go to the hospital. This will probably lead to speculation that he'll drop out of the race, though that would be a bit premature as people have operations like this all the time.

I saw this on CNN today. Poor guy. He really didn't have much of a chance at this point anyway, but this will just plant more doubts in people's minds. He would have made a fine president.

Sometimes people who are too far ahead of their time never really reach the pinnacle. He did, and will, have a significant and enduring influence on society.
