Check-In Thread #95: Americium Interstate Dogme

Even wilder and wackier than pre-crash Miscellaneous, the survivors talk about the weather, puppies, work, and coffee.

^^

Speaking of lazy and irresponsible -- I just had a nice long phone chat with a friend from grad school whom I hadn't heard from in years. He's 59 like me, but unlike me, he waited until last week to have his first colonoscopy (which they recommend you have at age 50 or younger).

So of course they found a "big mass" which they're doing a biopsy on. My friend is scared to death as you can imagine. They'll let him know the results on Tuesday.

The good news is that he's symptom-free which suggests that if it's malignant, maybe they've caught it early before it's metastscized.

*sends hugs to Scotty and friend*

Been so busy this week, going to a show on Thursday and Friday (same show, 1h long, the jokes did not get old, went twice as it had a very close friend in it). :)

Fingers crossed for him. Masses in the colon (like lumps in the breast) are benign the vast majority of times. It's good that they found it, though, just in case.

^^ Thanks, guys. I didn't realize that most lumps are benign. In the movies, they're almost always malignant :wtf:

GM. started walking to patching pond but gave up as the sidewalk on the route there was so icy it was no fun walking - i had to take little 'safe' steps, rather than stride it oujt for exercise - so i hit the organic farm store instead. i am down to leeks at the plot now, so.... later on i trotted off on a proper strided waddle to sainsburys and managed to spend £15 nectar points on new vegan soy-free foods to trial out over the next couple of months. (would be less than a weeks shop to someone who ate a lot of proxcessed foods - but i only eat such items weekly rather than daily as i prefercooking from scratch other than after work when i dont have much time.) i ended up going to bed and reading til my eyes clkosed me down for the jight.
today - another empty day to shove stuff into...roll on tommorrow - the ONLY good day of my week these days!

It was a comfortable night and morning for a change. I might even give the beach a try.

Well, those are the kind you hear about. The benign ones are quickly forgotten.

Yeah, be very careful. It's dangerous just walking this time of year.

My friend in Virginia said she's going to get one this year but was fretting over finding someone who could take her. I told her I'd come out since I know how daunting it can be. That way, no last minute cancellations will affect her. Meanwhile, I know people nearing 50 who gripe and complain at the very thought of getting one. Since I've been there twice, I lay it out straight that they're freaking out over absolutely nothing.

What I find maddening is the orthodontist's assistants advise their patients to take OTC pain reliever whenever their braces are adjusted. The amount of discomfort lasts just a few days, so I think they're doing people a disservice by recommending medication. Maybe it's me, but I think the US public have turned into the biggest weenies in the past 35 years, always wanting a little pill to cure all that ails. Some years back, a co-worker was telling me how I'd be on cholesterol medication "like everyone else"? :wtf: :wtf: He proceeded to point out several people in the office who were on one form of medication or another. I told him since I don't eat the Oklahoma diet of fried everything washed down with a soda that I wasn't worried. Blood pressure medication is another over medication trend (IMO), and I found it disturbing that several blood pressure medications were recently linked to cancer.

Good morning!

I get to spend a fun filled day at the hospital with my husband. He's having surgery...see infirmary thread. My mom is on her way up, and will meet me at the hospital when she gets here, which will be about 3 hours from now. I have only had 4 hours of sleep, and my anxiety is through the roof. Ugh!

I agree. My colonoscopy was quick and painless. The prep for it was far worse than the actual procedure.

I didn't bother going down to the beach. It was cloudy and still pretty chilly, so I just went back to bed and read the funnies.

Transportation is my issue, too. Everybody I know works, except my Mother, and she'd freak out even for a screening procedure. If your friend is not having any symptoms, she can probably use Cologuard, which is a home test and an accepted alternative to colonoscopy, and it's covered by insurance. I've gotten away with it for the last four or five years.
Maybe it's me, but I think the US public have turned into the biggest weenies in the past 35 years

It's going to be an early spring, at least in my area. The frogs in my pond have been active with mating calls the last few days.

Cayla just posted a funny weather meme on Facebook a few minutes ago, so I'm guessing everything is good with Ron. Hopefully we'll get confirmation and details soon.

^^ I hope you're right about the news about Ron likely being good.

Gary, I'll take an early spring. We'll have 2 days this coming week with above 70 degree temps.

Our Super Bowl party went well. The guests just left and because of my cold I'm completely wiped out.

Bring on Monday, Maddy's favorite day of the week.

Good morning!

No surgery, and yes, I am going to work today. If I don't work, I don't get paid. I'll need to take a day off later this week to bring Ron home. My mom came up and stayed with me last night. Since I do not need her, she is going back home today. My next door neighbor is going to take care of my dogs this afternoon and evening, so that I can go right to the hospital after work. I did get a good night's sleep, and I look forward to more sleep tonight. The birthday party went well. I got to spend time with all 4 kids plus Ruby.

No surgery for now. He will only need surgery if an abscess forms.

Ron won't be too happy with me, today. My pastor found out he is in the hospital. He is going to visit Ron. Ron does not share the same views of religion as I do, and does not attend any church. I just agreed to it, because it was someone to go check on him, while I was at work, today.

Finally caught up on the check ins. Phew!

Cayla, glad to hear things are ok with Ron.

Scotty, you forgot to mention that my favorite team won the Super Bowl! I even got to watch the game 😁

Must get up to Dunkin's today to get online and pay bills. Ugh.

Keep on keeping on, everyone!
