Check-In #98: How have you been?

Even wilder and wackier than pre-crash Miscellaneous, the survivors talk about the weather, puppies, work, and coffee.

Check-In #98: How have you been?

Post by Lupine » Tue Jun 25, 2019 2:40 pm

Looks like we need a new check-in, so here it is.

Good morning, all.

Later today I'll probably be back up in Big Bear at the faire site. Have to work on the maze today.

^^ Don't get lost in that maze! :rat:

I forgot to mention that yesterday when I went to get something out of the crawlspace under our house, I was greeted by the unmistakable stench of rotting flesh. Some animal has died down there. :rip:

So someday, when I'm down there getting out our artificial Christmas tree or fetching a tool, I'll encounter a body. :zombie:

^eeks, that's terrible.
It seems to be stench-season: upon coming home an hour ago I noted a halitosis-like smell from my pantry and haven't managed to discover the cause yet. Nothing in there reeked that badly, but maybe it was the combination of the rotting kohlrabi, an overripe cucumber and a mummified potato that I've thrown out. I've set out a bowl of vinegar and hope that'll kill the rest of the stench. Deep shelves are handy but there's always the risk that you overlook something in the farthest corner.

Good evening, everyone. :hello:

I had a meeting at HQ tomorrow, but it got canceled. Actually, I was kind of looking forward to this one, as it was the first meeting of the new team.

How long does it take for a cat to become mummified? Until I find the body, I'm going to dread getting stuff out of the crawlspace.

Pretty quickly in a dry climate. In a wetter climate, it will just rot.

I moved it to the Archives (which is what I should always do with locked threads). If you click on "Your Posts" under "Quick links" you will see it, or just click here.

My wet climate means rotting rather than mummying. That's unfortunate

Good morning, all. :coffee:

Might go shopping today, or might not. Depends on how thing shake out. A third chick hatched out on the porch. And more people are finally starting to show up in Big Bear and it looks like the site was cleaned up a bit, though I do kind of miss having free run of the place. Also there's extension cords all over now which makes it difficult at times to work around them.

Good morning!

The plan today is to do 2 loads of laundry, change the bedding, drop off some rummage at the church, and pull some weeds. I may take a drive to the beach this afternoon.

Happy Thursday, everyone :hello:

I wonder if Gary has his internet back yet. I keep waiting for him to post some good news about being happy back at home.

Today I have to sit through a 4-hour conference call with other members of the Heroic Imagination Project. It will be brutal :headbash:

It's about 9 hours to the Atlantic Ocean from me, but to Lake Erie it is about 15-20 minutes, depending on the traffic.

I'm skipping the beach, today. I ended up napping for 2 1/2 hours. On Thurdays, Edgewater Beach has bands and food trucks, so it will be too crowded to go there, this evening. So far, all I have accomplished is 1 load of laundry complete, 1 load in the dryer, and another in the washer.

He did say he was happy. He's waiting for an alternative Internet provider to infiltrate his area, so I'm not sure how long that will take.

No shattered dreams yet, but it might be a longer process than I thought. We conferenced with TIAA-CREF to roll over my BMC retirement funds into my IRA. That will probably take into next week. Next we have to work on my Putnam accounts.

Our financial guy has us doing IRAs and rollovers. There are weird tax advantages to do it all a certain way. I have no idea what it all means so I nod my head like an idiot, trusting him not to be Bernie Madoff. :desperado: :bandit:
