I just got one, too. We'll have to let huggle know. She'll be back from her vacation soon.

back :)
Exactly what error did you get? A screenshot would be ideal, in case the board specified the nature of the error.

Sorry about the long silence - dad's flu viruses thought of starting a colony in a second host and though my immune system is a good deal stronger than his, I still couldn't go online, the prob being that ever since I cracked his way too obvious password, dad has been using a very complicated one so that I can't go online without him switching the machine on first. (Dad thinks: safety first, daughters later :D )

Update on the attachment problem on the new board: it's still 2:1 for the bug. New attachments will be displayed, old ones won't even though they are there. Even my dad is pretty mystified and suspects it might be a server-software related problem. Tomorrow I'll check which software both servers use and if I can't find a vital difference I'll contact Orpheus to see whether he encountered such a problem before.
In the worst case I'll just have to edit the respective posts and re-post the 1400 attachments. That'll take a while but has the advantage to be bound to work.

I should have thought to copy the message. I will if it happens again. So far it seems like a couple of isolated cases. :fingerscrossed:

Aw, I hope you're feeling better. Being sick on vacation is not good. They should give you credit for sick days on vacation.

I hope the worst-case scenario doesn't come to pass. I don't want you to have to do that. If you do, you should teach me how to help.

The site seemed to freeze up for a couple of minutes around 8:00 this morning.

And it just did it again.

This morning it froze on me on the redirection screen after I posted. Then I got a DNS error. It's just Yahoo stuff. It seems to be okay now already-- not like the last time when it lasted about three days.

I fixed ReNext's [classic] after-post redirect issue some time back. Let me know if the current issue isn't just a Yahoo thing.

Be aware, however, that browsers will increasingly complain/warn that ReNext isn't auto-redirecting http:// urls to https://

Http:// is much less secure than Https://, but ubiquitous Https:// mostly makes it hard for the NSA/etc. to track everyone.

What's the difference? Mostly: browsers now want ReNext to use a (once expensive, now free) AUTHORIZED cert for https://

For 25 years, I (and most other admins) created/signed our own cryptographic certs, except when we needed public trust.

These days, browsers have begun to "protect users" -- and since they don't know every admin/site, they want "known certifiers"

I don't even disagree. It's not a bad idea (even if some "known certifiers" were known to only test if your check to them cleared)

We haven't had an actual SQL error in a long while, probably because you fixed that redirect. We've just had the occasional Yahoo awkwardness. I'm not sure if we're going to be https after we move or not. But I do hope that we can upgrade to a software version that will let me embed YouTube videos without editing their https address.

I've been getting quite few SQL errors. So many that it's been hard posting about them here.

I've been getting a few, too. I emailed huggle about it. :(

add another error: your first mail didn't reach me, Rick. I only got the one from today (Thursday) saying all is well again.

Interestingly, the board's own error records claim there hasn't been an error since December 2015.

I just made a backup and shall make new ones at 24 hour intervals at minimum (if possible more often).
The new board still gives me trouble but I think the error there is of a nature we can ignore: an error message is only displayed on the admin control panel but appears to not interfere with the board performance. I'll try to speed up work on the new board and install the daily updates on it so that we'll have a sort of mirror copy ready for use and lose only posts from the last 24 hours in the worst case.

In case this one crashes, from Saturday on the address of the new board will be http://sdg3.com/renext

Feel free to have a look and even log in but please do not post or message there as long as this one exists since your posts on the new board will get wiped out the instant I install the newest backup. Also, if I happen to be working on the board you might encounter errors or the board may even be inaccessible for a while.

That's weird. :conf:

Does it interfere with any of the Admin functions?

It looks a little different. :D
