Internet speeds

Post by jgc »

So my internet provider (the cable company) has three speeds:

Internet access - 1.5 mbps x 384 kbps $29.95

High speed basic - 2 mbps x 512 kbps $41.95

High speed internet - up to 20 mbps x 2 mbps $52.95

I'm being charged for #3 High speed internet. I was wondering what the difference would be with the other 2 speeds. Thinking about trying to save some $$ monthly.

How would each affect my browsing, ReNext posting, FB, KOL playing, etc?

I don't think Renext would be a problem at the lower speeds. Facebook seems to be getting more video heavy and that might be a problem. When I was on dial-up Renext would require some patience but Facebook was becoming inaccessible.

Those are all good prices though.

Yeah, I don't think it would affect ReNext or KOL much, if at all. Facebook always seems to drag no matter what. The biggest problem would be if you watch videos online. But you could get around that by using Downloadhelper for Firefox and just watch them from your desktop when they're finished. You might be able to compensate for Facebook by using a really light browser like Chrome or Safari with no plug-ins.

I've decided to change from high speed internet to high speed basic. That'll save about $11.00 a month. With the other changes I'm making to my house phone and stuff, I'll be saving close to $60.00 a month.

I'm thinking about dumping high speed too, since mine just went up about $12. Probably I should get by with fewer tabs open.

^Some people down towards your direction told me there's an inexpensive one down there. Can't remember the name right now.

I think it's Mojave WiFi some people I know use.

Looking at it now though I'm not sure it's as good as Wisprenn, which I don't think gets down in your area.
