Are you suggesting Clarke's talent is other-worldly?

Did you ever hear the saying that any sufficiently excellent writing is indistinguishable from extraterrestrials?

Of his three laws, which do you find the most intriguing or insightful?

1. When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong.
2. The only way of discovering the limits of the possible is to venture a little way past them into the impossible.
3. Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

While the third is the most insightful, don't you agree that the second is the most intriguing?

What's an example of how you can apply the second law, or how it's already been applied?

Wouldn't any Grand Unified Theory be an example?

As an example, I was thinking of Roger Bannister, the first runner to break the 4-minute mile barrier. Because people had said such a feat could never be done, would his achievement be considered an example of Clarke's second law?

Yes, but don't you think Clarke was more likely to be considering things like interstellar travel and Dyson Spheres?

Yes. Do you have any thoughts about the rivalry, if there was one, between Clarke and Asimov?

They just kidded each other, but don't you think the relationship between Asimov and Heinlein was more amusing?

I Googled this and found nothing. Can you send me a link on the amusing relationship between Asimov and Heilein?

I must have read about it in his magazine essays, so do you mind if I summarize an example below?

Asimov was a teetotaler and Heinlein was a hard-drinking type, so one time at a party Heinlein spiked Asimov's drink. Asimov began to realize that something was happening to him, so he went off to sit in a corner and wait for it to pass. He was normally loud and gregarious, so this caused Heinlein to remark that Asimov was the only person to ever sober up when drunk.

Do you have any idea how Asimov got him back for that prank?

Unfortunately, I do not. Isn't it funny that, despite the petabytes of data freely available on the Internet, that we still can't find what we're looking for?

But can you imagine ever returning to the days before the internet and Google searches?

Do you think there is such a thing as internet addiction, and do you think we are addicts?
