Got the password so I could get into my author portal for my publisher. This stuff's getting serious. Eep!

I'm just about done with Book 9. You're pulling too far ahead.

Got back the first round of editings and apparently semicolons aren't allowed. I guess they aren't sexy enough.

I love semicolons. Also, em dashes.

No colons either. I have no idea how I'll make up fake movie titles and the like.

It's really easy to have a run-on sentence when no semicolons are allowed.
I've also learned that Brits don't use spun. They use span instead. Like "He spun the bag" becomes "he span the bag." I am so confused.

"Her hair was like span gold." Hmm.
They also say "whilst" a lot. Jim will confirm that.

In that case, I've been spun a few lies over the years... I think it varies based on what sounds best tbh.blablover5 wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 12:55 amI've also learned that Brits don't use spun. They use span instead. Like "He spun the bag" becomes "he span the bag." I am so confused.
And no, actually we don't tend to use whilst in idle conversation, I just tend to use it in written work automatically thanks to high-school English lessons.
I'm thinking of putting hyperlight on hiatus for a while and kicking off a modern-fantasy series (ie magic and so on but with modern tech)...
Also we appear to be on page 22... should we be on a new thread?

I've never heard that. Are you sure they're English? Or know what they're doing? I mean, semi-colons...blablover5 wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 12:55 amIt's really easy to have a run-on sentence when no semicolons are allowed.
