Re: The Picture Thread VIII: Take the shot.
um yes - you can see brickwork, holes in the floorboards - its um...somewhat numbing to see it even worse of a mess than when it had a bath in....thankfully thats after 2 days work and theyre supposed to take a fortnight... but look what they found - an antique cigarette pack! not sure if the original builders dropped it while building the house back in 1953, or dad did some work under the bath/in th airing cupboard and left a pack behind or what....but the workmen left this out and i assume they found rather than brought it wiht them!
of course its just old cardboard to me....but i suppose it might be worth something - no idea?- RJDiogenes

Well, it's fascinating if nothing else. If it was me, I'd save it, just because I love that stuff. We found various things at the house on Bayley Terrace (which was built around the time of the Civil War) during various construction projects. Most of it was in pretty bad shape, but one cool thing was an ancient calendar on a porcelain tile. My Mother still has it. Other stuff, like old newspapers, just crumbled to dust, unfortunately.
A quick Google search says that a pack like that can get anywhere from ten to thirty Euros, although that one looks kind of beat up.

^^^
My dad was working on our old farm house in Colorado, and when he pulled off the old plaster walls we found that the house had been lined with 1950 newspapers instead of insulation.
It was very cool looking through them.

Yeah, I'll bet that was fun. They were probably in terrible shape, though. At least these days it might be possible to scan them before they fall apart.

So, as I said, new twins! Kids were struggling! Gran and Pa to the rescue! Did I handle it?

That sprang back to life nicely.
Wow, that's amazing. He's got it all figured out and he wants his girlfriend to in on the action. Animal intelligence is fascinating.
