Check-In Thread #95: Americium Interstate Dogme

Even wilder and wackier than pre-crash Miscellaneous, the survivors talk about the weather, puppies, work, and coffee.

Check-In Thread #95: Americium Interstate Dogme

Post by Madeliaette »

GM - grabs coffee. not sure if i have sinus issues on one side of my nose - swollen and pouring - or a cold in half my nose. it hasnt spread yet and its been 3-4 days since it began... either way, other than drippy nose, swollen face and sore throat there are no other symtpoms...still...usually if its a cold it spread to both sides.
might hike or might hit the plot today before work.

I hope you feel better. Is it still very cold there?

Happy Friday, all :hello:

Today I'll get some writing done. And I might sneak away to the theater this afternoon to see Kevin Hart's new movie, The Upside.

Those sound like plenty of symptoms to me. I hope you feel better

I love that title; it has me curious. Is this a complete re-writing or a revision of a draft?

^A little of both. The book needs to be longer and there are things I wanted to add.

Good morning, all.

Happy Saturday, everyone :hello:

This morning there's an Agile Writer's conference here in Richmond. I'm scheduled to give a talk on "the mentor" in fiction. I'm not at all an expert on this topic and I had to scramble to put my slides together last night. If any of you are interested in my slides, I can email you my powerpoint.

Then this afternoon The Wife and I signed up to take Argentine Tango lessons. We're pretty good at American Tango, but we know very little of the Argentine variety. It's an entirely different-looking dance -- different steps and different styling.

Hope y'all have a great day

That sounds like it's going to be interesting. You should have someone film this stuff and put it on Youtube.

It went pretty well. There were about 20 people in the audience, mostly writers of fiction. They asked good questions.

I know from hosting my own conference this past Fall that it costs $$$ to video conference presentations. That's probably why Greg (the conf host) doesn't do it and why I didn't do it. I'm happy to share my slides if you like.

Now there's a group I'll never qualify for.

Please do. Who did you come up with for mentors?

Can't you just set up a tripod and an iPhone or something? Or get a student to do it for extra credit?

^^ You're assuming I'm good at coming up with obvious solutions to simple problems

My talk was about why mentors are important for good storytelling. I did use a bunch of examples (e.g., Mr. Miyagi, Obi Wan Kenobe, etc). Do I have your email? You may have to pm it to me.

Okay, I'll ask: Is this about writers being able to move quickly? If it is, I'm in trouble.

Oh, I'm back. :hello: Hope everyone is doing well.

Since I was last here:

The end of Sept. lightning struck the pole with our cable line, took out four connections, so four houses. Each of us called when it happened, we were all given an appointment date at four weeks, except one guy. He was given one at five weeks. Many calls and a week later, including to the area supervisor, we were fixed in another two weeks. It took awhile before we all realized it wasn't just one house, then there was the wait for the parts, which wouldn't have happened if the cable help people had listened to any of us.
Son and I were lucky, though. We heard the thunder and decided to pull the plugs on everything. The house to our east and the elderly couple two houses to the north, weren't so lucky.
But, get this. We still had trouble with our connection (cable, net, phone), for months! Then in December, when the new landlord tried to kill us by spray painting in the basement (yes, he was told to NEVER do that again. Even his dad was dumbfounded by him doing that), I happened to see the cable box was ripped off the house. So I called the cable company to get it fixed. I was told they would be out the next day. I checked, the box looked secured, but our connection still kept dropping. I would call, they would check, nothing changed. Then last Saturday, everything was just barely there, cable being the worst. So, I called, and that call revealed to me that I had an appointment for the next day. What? So I got an actual person and was told that yes, our line and box were to be worked on. Months. Months I have paid for this service, months of high costs for crap connection. Yep, I called again and requested a refund.

And now you all know why I have disappeared again. I did mange to get logged in and change my avatar once, in December, I think, and tried to post, but got kicked off the net. It just got so frustrating that I gave up, with pretty much everything online.
I hate to say it out loud, but I think we're good, now. shhh...

Aside from that, it's just been a lot of work at the farm, and quite a bit of writing done.

GM.
Cool. More pictures.
tons - about 75 - but i havent cropped them or wrote about them yet!
eeeeeeek - i am having problems also - but not that bad. i had a phoneline put in shortly after i moved back to dad's house from Australia, so i could have my own phone and use the internet at home - as dads p[honeline had a careline on. well after dad passed, i used the extra line JUST for internet, not the phone at all, and the original 1980's ;line for the phone. 3 months ago i was being charged for calls on the newer/internet only line that i knew i had not made, as i dont user it for phone calls. luckily the service accepted this, as i havemnt been charged for calls for months beforehand....and credited me for the calls i hadnt made - and fixed the line fault, which was apparently their cause. this month, expecting no problems, along came £2 wotrth of calls...and they said there was another fault on the line and theyd fix it.....friday, a day or so after, the police banged on the door asking if i had rung 999...as apparently someone used my phoneline to do so... but not me!...yesterday, i got in from arundel, and was consideirng braving the rain to go to worthing to pop into a shop and ther library as i had an all day bus pass - when the phone maintencne man appeared on the poffchance i was hpome - and did some checks - and found my socket faulty. however he said this would NOT explain the phone calls....

so....i have a prope functiuoning phoneline for internet - but somehow mystery calls are happening on the line that nobody at this residence has made! today - backyard biurdwatch and unknown.
