U-haul truck is reserved for pickup next Thursday. Insurance cutover for the car is next Tuesday; insurance for the new house takes effect next Tuesday (which is also the closing); and insurance for my existing house, which will be leased, takes effect 6/1. I scheduled power to be cut at my existing house on the 28th, which is the end of the billing cycle, while electricity to the new house takes effect next Tuesday. The next two challenges will be water & trash along with gas. Getting Internet set up for the new house should be a breeze. I'm hoping the lawyer will have the lease and sales contract ready soon.
So you'll be actually living in your new house as of June 1st?
Set up the appointment for gas service to be active next week. All that's left is water & trash. Anyway, I will be living in there by Memorial Day with 90% of my stuff moved. I will now refer to my houses as "country house" and "city house". Some items will be left for my friend/tenant, such as tools, so we (yes, we) can do work on the country house so it will meet the appraisal. After that, he'll be coming to the city house to help me with some changes I want to make.

It's all working so well that I have a bundle of nerves running through me.

Happy Thursday, everyone :hello:

We'll go down the river to Nuremberg today and then rent a car for a few days. After being on buses and boats, I'm a little nervous about driving in Germany given that I don't know a single German word. I wish huggle could help me

Cayla, sounds like you're doing a pretty good job of not letting all the drama around you get to you. Keep drawing that anti-drama zone around yourself

RJ, I learned that a fortress is merely a female fort. :vixen:

Glad to hear emma will get a healthy computer soon. I can just imagine how disappointed she is about her house closing falling through. Let's hope that doesn't happen to Gary.

Hope y'all have a great day

I'll bet. Is it possible to take a week or so off after the move?

Good morning!

I cannot wait to see what drama unfolds today

RJ, it is strange that the strange people are back. I don't know why, but I am picturing a group of people that only RJ can see, and they cannot see him. Like a Twilight Zone episode. Where did they go? Why are they there? Are they ever going to leave?

scottydog, I am enjoying your photos of Germany on FB.

That is too bad about Emma's house not being sold. She needs to have a bit more patience. It will sell.

Gary, I am sure your are anxious about nothing. It sounds like you have thought of everything, so I am sure it will all go fine.

Today's agenda....buy vegetable plants for the garden, go to Malley's for Mom to buy chocolates for our hosts on our trip, a stop at Walmart, Pick up meds from the vet, a walk, and laundry.

One week from today, and I will be on the road with my mother. I'm getting excited about it.

Another soggy, chilly day in Germany. We got rained on while walking around Bamberg and I don't think the temp exceeded 50 degrees. Thank goodness I remembered to pack my raincoat.

It is like a Twilight Zone episode. Unfortunately, they can see me, but luckily, they are not here today. They are homeless friends of my Cousin who he is trying to help, which is great-- but having two strangers in my house is just terrible. It inhibits everything that I normally do and makes it difficult to sleep. I hope they never come back, but now I can't be sure.

^^ I don't blame you for feeling so uncomfortable while they're at your place. I would hate to have complete strangers crashing at my place without my permission.

Maybe it's time to set booby traps around your house. Nothing that would kill them, just annoy them. Like every time they turn on a lamp or light switch, their face gets sprayed with mustard.

Happy Friday, all :hello:

We'll get in our rental car today and continue to explore southern Germany. RJ, I think you're right that "es tut mir leid" will come in handy.

One thing that really strikes me about this country is how forested it is. Germany is mostly wooded, reflecting how much their people value nature and trees.

Maddy, I think you posted on Facebook that your internet connection has mended itself. That's good

Cayla, I hope there is less drama going on in your neck of the woods.

Good morning!

Well, Nick's brother decided yesterday evening, that Lisa is too much for him right, now, she we had to drive to Akron at 9pm to pick her up. I agreed to let her stay here one night, as her friend, who is trying to help, was going to pick her up in the morning. We get to my house, and she already decided to leave with one of her drug friends. We tried. I was able to get some information out of her to relay to the attorney. He filed a class action law suit against the county jail in December. Now he is filing a civil suit for Nick's 4 kids, but he needs to find someone in the family of sound mind to responsibly administrate everything.

The funeral is tomorrow afternoon. :(

Tonight the church is having a chicken paprikash dinner. I didn't want to work it, but pastor talked me into it. I still may not work it. I'm tired.

Yesterday, was trash day here, too.

scottydog, it is the Tour of the South. My mother does get on my nerves. Three days is my maximum limit of her, so this should be interesting. We are staying with different relatives, so hopefully interacting with other people will help.

Signed the copy of the closing documents for financing (electronically). Have been moving furniture and boxes of items out of the master bedroom and living room in preparation for the carpet shampooing on Tuesday. This is actually happening. It's a bit bittersweet as this is the last weekend I'll be here. Wow. I'm experiencing the buyer's remorse emotions along with others because it's a new chapter in my life. Next week is going to be slightly chaotic with some last minute packing before I get the truck on Thursday, so bear with me if I'm not back until Memorial Day Weekend.

Happy Saturday, everyone :hello:

Well, I drove on the autobahn for the first time. It's interesting and a bit more stressful than driving on US freeways/interstates. People go really fast in the fast lanes -- and I mean really fast. I was going 140 kph, which is about 86 mph, which is about as fast as I feel comfortable driving -- and other drivers in the fast lane were passing me like I was standing still

So then I upped my speed to 160 kph (about 100 mph) and drivers in the fast lane were still passing me like I was standing still  I wisely decided not to try to compete with them.

We drove for about 3 hours from Nuremberg to Augsburg, making a small stop along the way in an ancient medieval town called Rothenburg. During WW2 the allied forces bombed a lot of these German cities and towns to smithereens. But some towns like Rothenburg were spared and it's like walking into the year 800 or 1100 -- the castles, the towers, the moats, the walls, the fortifications, are all well preserved. It's quite stunning.

they feel better than ,my nose, thats for sure! cigarette and cigar fumes, dog hair and months old dust, cement particles and gravel dust....all in 2-3 days does not bear well, let alone we had a gloomy heavy day and drizzle yesterday.... my left hand nose/throat feel yuk.

ahead - dunno. if it doesnt rain - watering down the plot, i may hop the hill to Asda...may just curl up with a book/play in the poly tunnel. i do ha ve a dog sitting job this evening though - ten mi nutes before a blue moon.

Good morning!

Gary, it seems like it all happened so fast! I'm sure everything will go well with the move. You'll be happy once you are settled into your new place.

It sounds like you are having quite the adventure, scottydog. I must admit, I am slightly jealous that you were able to drive 100mph. The closest thing to the autobahn I have ever driven is the Mass Pike. RJ will understand.

So, the Strange People have returned. Maybe you could offer them a Twisted Tea, and make friends with them?

The wake and funeral service is this afternoon. My husband is cranky. :(

Farnam is having an all day event about forest restoration, gardening, bee keeping, ecology, etc. I may go for a couple hours this morning. It is free, and the sponsor is giving away free seeds for the garden.

Good morning! :hello:

We finally have on-boarded another full-time person at the agency. I am so, so happy to have the help, but like one of those precarious balancing acts with thin rods and porcelain plates, I have no idea how to hand anything off without it all coming down around my ears. She is doing such an amazing job, though.

So much is going on with you all, I always feel a bit like a stranger stepping in to the room.

Well, I drove on the autobahn for the first time. It's interesting and a bit more stressful than driving on US freeways/interstates. People go really fast in the fast lanes -- and I mean really fast. I was going 140 kph, which is about 86 mph, which is about as fast as I feel comfortable driving -- and other drivers in the fast lane were passing me like I was standing still
I worked with a woman who got into a pretty bad accident on the autobahn while they were living there. It had messed up her back pretty badly. She said it's pretty dangerous if you don't understand the rules.

Congratulations!

The hospital released her that night. Keep your fingers crossed that her friend follows through on getting her to a rehab facility immediately after the funeral, tomorrow. That is the plan for now.
I hope for the very best for her, Cayla. It's such a painful journey watching someone you care about give up on themselves time and again. For me, I built up a sort of callousness because at some point I had to do it.

Good morning, everyone. :hello:

The strange people are here, but my Cousin promises this is the last time. We'll see....
How long do they plan to stay? Are they good cooks?

Yeah, whenever any big change is about to happen, we always think, "Stop, never mind."
Right? It's that edge of the cliff sensation. Back away slowly.

Have a great day!
