The Picture Thread IX: Look At That!

Re: The Picture Thread IX: Look At That!
The end of January, we went for a drive down the gravel, it's part of our road, which is called The Ridge Road (we are actually on what's called Clay Hill, on The Ridge Road. Though they didn't give us that name for 911). Anyway, we drove out on the gravel, and as we topped a hill, we saw a big, dark bird standing in the road. I thought maybe it was a peacock, but nope. As we got closer, we could see it was a wild turkey and it didn't even care. She just strolled in front of us, like she owned the road. So, I stopped, grabbed my phone and before I could get a shot, she flew off over the fence into the pasture beside the road. Apparently that's what it took to get her to move, try to take a photo. Clearly, she is not a fan of paparazzi. I got a photo of her in the pasture, though.
And, as with every year, the Bald Eagles are daily visitors in the timber across from our farm house:
Don't know why they like our area in the winter, but not the summer. Though with the nest tree having been taken out by the derecho, maybe they will nest in the timber, now. Probably not, no big areas of water here.

Sure ya would. Like I keep telling a friend who lives in Florida, you'd adjust. Funny though, he keeps saying: "No way! Not a chance!" He thinks he'd freeze.
I forgot:
Cute couple!
I was going to ask what the temps were when you were there?

^^ Actually kind of chilly by South Carolina standards. The high was around 50 in the daytime.

See? I told you that I can't handle an Iowa winter! I admit to being a first class WIMP. I can barely tolerate temperatures below room temperature

Re: The Picture Thread IX: Look At That!
That is lovely countryside. I'd love to live in an area like that.
Okay, fingers crossed, because I am not allowed to preview in here.
Nice. I saw two turkeys on the side of Route 18 yesterday on my way to Mom's. She sometimes gets flocks of a half dozen or more at her house. Did you ever see my pics of the massive turkey horde at Blue Hills Cemetery?
It's hard to tell if they're cocky or stupid. She just strolled in front of us, like she owned the road.
That's an amazing shot. And, as with every year, the Bald Eagles are daily visitors in the timber across from our farm house:
I wouldn't mind the snow, but I'm very vulnerable to cold. I like to think that gives me something in common with the Six-Million-Dollar Man.
Re: The Picture Thread IX: Look At That!
Thank you, Lupine.
There are always pretty views.RJDiogenes wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 12:35 amThat is lovely countryside. I'd love to live in an area like that.
I remember that, mostly males, right? Or were they all males? I'll have to check. Going to get hay, my brother, son and I saw 16 out in a field. Too far away for a photo.RJDiogenes wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 12:35 amNice. I saw two turkeys on the side of Route 18 yesterday on my way to Mom's. Thanks. The LG-G4 does great in good light. I'll post the one I got a few days later when it was cloudy. It's not bad, but not nearly as clear.
Was he vulnerable to cold? I haven't watched that show in years.RJDiogenes wrote: ↑Mon Feb 08, 2021 12:35 amI wouldn't mind the snow, but I'm very vulnerable to cold. I like to think that gives me something in common with the Six-Million-Dollar Man.

Re: The Picture Thread IX: Look At That!
Not sure about that, but they were more aggressive in large numbers than I'm used to. I thought they were going to gang up on me when I got too close.
Yeah, coldness was his Kryptonite. It made his bionics sluggish. Was he vulnerable to cold? I haven't watched that show in years.
Wow, very majestic and stark.Okay, so Bald Eagle:
Could be Mars. Come to think of it, isn't there a landing today? I'll have to check. And is it Mars or Earth:
That's a nice area, too, and the horses came right up to see you.
Re: The Picture Thread IX: Look At That!
I noticed several of them were displaying. Letting you know you invaded their turf. I can't tell if they are all males or not, but it does look like all males, like a bachelor flock.RJDiogenes wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 11:54 pmNot sure about that, but they were more aggressive in large numbers than I'm used to. Makes sense. But yep, I forgot that.RJDiogenes wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 11:54 pmYeah, coldness was his Kryptonite. It made his bionics sluggish.
No landing that day, but an orbiter, I think. There is a landing soon?RJDiogenes wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 11:54 pmCould be Mars. Come to think of it, isn't there a landing today? I'll have to check.
I keep seeing Ringneck pheasants in the evening. I got a shot of two females today, but since there was no sun, they aren't very good. I'm hoping for sun tomorrow.
This is how bad my phone does in low light:
There are actually two in this shot:

Probably drunk, too.
Yes, I forgot to post in the Mars thread. That was an orbiter that day and there are two landings coming up this month. This is going to be great, if all goes well.No landing that day, but an orbiter, I think. There is a landing soon?
Yeah, I just can't get good pics in low light. This is how bad my phone does in low light:
I think I see them. Are they on opposite sides of the picture? There are actually two in this shot:
Re: The Picture Thread IX: Look At That!
Bachelor parties.
Yep, one is behind a fence post (to the right). She didn't want her picture taken.RJDiogenes wrote: ↑Tue Feb 16, 2021 11:29 pmI think I see them. Are they on opposite sides of the picture?
And today I got two males:
I'm really happy to see these birds. We used to have a lot of them around, heard the roosters in our pasture, then about 10 years ago, they disappeared. I look forward to hearing their call again.
