Check-In 105:KP sings dubnium

Even wilder and wackier than pre-crash Miscellaneous, the survivors talk about the weather, puppies, work, and coffee.

Oh, almost forgot, last week I wrote a short piece for Psychology Today. A variation of the article also appears in my heroes blog. As it mentions Thomas Jefferson, I get the feeling RJ may want to respond
I'm sure he will.
That's right, your long string of 3-day weekends begins VERY soon :bounce:
Two more regular weeks, and then long weekends for the rest of the year.

Pretty much a slow day. Got some writing done and took a nap. Also had a nice dinner at the mother-in-law's house.

So I knew you especially would oppose the idea of de-heroifying the founding fathers. I get that (and thank you for leaving a comment on my hero blog).

You wrote: "Indeed, rather than saying “all humans are flawed and perhaps not deserving of adoration,” it would be more accurate to say that all humans are flawed and therefore more deserving of adoration, because that makes heroism more of an accomplishment."

I don't disagree at all. But I do think that society has to draw a line somewhere, and there will always be disagreement over where to draw the line. And as Lupy wrote, because a society's values evolve over time, the line it draws will naturally shift.

To me, Thomas Jefferson's racism is more understandable, given the time period in which he lived, than the racism of Ronald Reagan, who called Black people "monkeys". Reagan lived in a time when he definitely should have known better. For that reason, a statue of Reagan seems unconscionable -- even if he had done great things.

Lupy wrote: "I do worry that in the rush to demolish offensive statues that we’ll be opening the door to future revisionists who will use their absence to claim that these people were never actually revered."

Revisionism has always gone on and always will. I agree that facts should be preserved -- including factual evidence that over time people have disagreed in their interpretations of the facts.

Henry is bouncing at the door as soon as i open it - at me as i step inside...and my coat as i try to take it off. i finally get to the older dog to pat it.....then henry the 1yrold pup is all bounce at me again.... The older dog has been k - but today she lay on her mistressess' bed and stuck her nose in the pillows - so obviously J is in pain or unhappy in some way and the dog is picking it up.

Well, that's it-- there has to be heroism there to begin with.

Poor doggy. And there's no chance of explaining it to her, like there might be with a person, and no way of taking her for a visit.

The murder hornets were a nice addition to the year. Giant squids would be a welcome treat, too, but I'm actually hoping for an alien War of the Worlds type invasion.

Agreed Cayla - this one does impersonations of a rug by laying flat out in the hall, leaps all over one wih exceitment at seeing someone visit, and loves belly-rub time.
was i early? i am usually online from 5.45-6am start thru for a half hour or 45 mins....and can be picked up for work at any time from 7.20 to 8.15...it was 8am today for 4 morning clients. i then have a 6.5 hr lunch break before one client this evening. but i had to dog sit for an hour.... :)

Good evening, everyone. :hello:

And my long 4th of July weekend is here! I think I'll head up to Ponkapoag on a photo safari tomorrow. I don't think I've been to that part of the Blue Hills before.

The morning is easy, because it's part of my routine. I check in on my forums, log into my work systems, take my medicine, and take out a TV dinner. In the evening, I try to take it around 7pm, but I don't have a set routine so I do sometimes forget or take it late.
