LOL that might be me :) In spite of being Bavarian, I loathe beer (and in fact any alcohol - can't stand the taste). A pint would take me forever.

I'm half German and I don't like beer either. I don't like vodka or gin either, and am not currently drinking the stuff I do like. No reason. I meant to go to the local Oktoberfest this year for the wurst, but didn't find out where it was in time. :conf:

I'm more than half Irish (according to Ancestry.com) and I don't like beer either. The only alcoholic beverage I like is Twisted Tea. And hard cider.

It's quite a drive from Palm Desert but if you get to LA they have a "Alpine Village" there at 833 W Torrance Blvd. That's a little east of the intersection with S. Vermont.
At the supermarket there ("Alpine Market") they used to have an excellent Austrian butcher who made all those typical Bavarian sausages. You can also get German mustard there. Alpine Village's Oktoberfest 2016 goes till Saturday.

OMG I haven't been there in decades! When I worked in aerospace I lived close by, used to go there often!

Memories. :sweetlove:

I went there once with my ex who is a native Angeleno :) It's a Disney-version of a Bavarian village but quite nice on the whole (awfully expensive, though!). What shocked me deeply, however, was that in the antiques shop there you can buy all sorts of Nazi stuff. Owning just a single piece of what they offer would get you in prison for several years over here!
The German bookshop is pretty good :) It used to be run by a very nice lady from Hamburg, just the opposite end of Germany. When my SO heard us chat he assumed it to be 2 different languages.

Yeah, I steered clear of any place selling Nazi stuff, but most places were nice. When were you there? It's been about 30 years for me.
