All's well here - though we did get some trees down...

I think the storm left us and went sort of northeast up toward the Netherlands. ;) It's taken a slightly different route from expectations as it didn't hit Bristol that badly, but it did hit Brighton.

Awww, is that one of those beautiful huge holly trees? They were so pretty!
I'm glad you're ok :)

The news said that both in GB and NL 2 people were killed by falling trees. There's still not a bit of wind here. All we have to expect is some rain and a rather rapid drop in temperature: 20°C today and only 4-8 on Wednesday.

I could do with some dry and windy weather as I'm intending to wash my thickest quilt. And I have 2 carpets to wash but I guess that'll have to wait till next year - they take days to dry.

We got some rain, nothing like GB got though. We're due for some t-storms towards the end of the week.

Not much going on, just babysitting and writing.

Good morning, everybody. Image

Where did my post from last night go?

Well, I'm glad everybody survived the bad weather okay, which is pretty much what I posted last night. I must have clicked the wrong button or something.

in the radio they said that in Northern Germany 7 people were killed. At least one child amongst them :(
Here in Bavaria there's still not the tiniest movement in the air. It's a darkish, cool and drizzly day.

Yeah, several people in London were killed by falling trees too. Including a 17-year-old girl in a caravan. Very sad.

We're to get t-storms later this week.

our skeletons are in the file cabinet: the other day I looked for the blueprints of a tiny water power plant and found it sticking in a map labeled "for resubmission after the final victory".
But since we haven't won the war yet it's still kinda valid, I'd say.

(It's a widely unknown fact that Germany still doesn't have a peace treaty with the allied forces, only a cease-fire. It's because as long as Germany was divided, we couldn't legally make a peace treaty, and after the reunification we haven't gotten around to get one yet. Besides, with the USSR having split up it's propably not legally possible now either, much like with the 2 Germanies. So, technically, my country is still at war with all of your countries. Pretty crazy, isn't it?)

The Halloween Marathon began last night with Supernatural and "Yours Truly, Jack The Ripper" (Robert Bloch's story adapted on Thriller). Today I think I'll start with my new DVD of Fiend Without A Face.

... While I'll switch off the doorbell and go to bed early with earplugs.

I just made a poster for my door saying:
"Dear kids,
halloween is an American custom. Here in Bavaria we used to have cool customs and opportunities to get sweets all year round. Just ask your grandparents or read it up in the public library. Why don't you come back here in December as Advent-singer and get cookies, gingerbread, nuts and tangerines? Totally un-scary and twice as much fun. CU in Advent! :)"

I'm pretty curious if it'll work and they'll show up in December. :shifty:
And in January to sing in the new year.
And in February as carnival singers
And in March as Easter-singers
And in May to sing in the spring
And in June to celebrate summer solstice
And in October to celebrate the harvest festival
And in November with their St Martin Day's lanterns

see why we don't really need Halloween? :D

We don't get trick or treaters where we live, it's too far out of town.

I was playing with the Google app, cute and fun.

They don't allow trick or treaters in a senior complex, either...but I saw most of the Halloween marathon last night...except I missed Halloween 3- season of the witch because the marathon was split between 2 channels...saw 1-5 though...minus 3.

I seem to remember them differently...I thought Jamie Lee Curtis was in most of them...I guess that must have been Friday the Thirteenth movies...oh well...haven't seen them since they first came out. the one series of those gory movies that I can't watch at all were the Nightmare on Elm Street movies; probably because I have nightmares where I dream I've woken up, only to find myself still stuck in the nightmare.

My parents always saw hallowe'en as an excuse for kids to scare old and vulnerable people by blackmailing them - "Give us sweets or we'll do something horrible to you" - so I never really got involved in it.

Yeah, this is the month where the toilet roll companies make a nice profit. I've already seen several yards around town filled with toilet paper.

Okay, so I can't find the $&#*$& thread where me and Santa was talking about American coffee and he said American's didn't know what good coffee was.

Anyway, I didn't feel like making a new thread just for this, but Santa is a man of his word and I got the brick of coffee today. I got to say it's interesting to know coffee is in there, but not being able to read the labeling at all (well, you know other than Santas hand-written note) - and yet strangely I'd almost be willing to swear I've seen Douwe Egberts before.

Weirdly though you'd think I could work some of it out, but the only thing I'm reasonably certain of is that Aroma Rood = aroma rich, but even then I figure I might be wrong.

So if this is really a lot better than American coffee I guess I really will have to start hounding him for the whiskey! Of course, in an annoying twist I won't be able to try it today, because it arrived AFTER I made my first pot and for my second pot I'll have to be drinking decaf (BLARG!) because I have to be able to go to bed early tonight since I'll have to get up and go to work in the middle of the night.

Also, in a sad twist where I am Halloween has been canceled. *cries* Supposedly it will be celebrated here tomorrow, but tomorrow I have to work. *cries moar* Though I'm a bit like Chatty, though I'm not that far out, it's just about five years ago all the kiddies in the neighborhood grew up and now we no longer know everyone in the neighborhood so for about four years now we don't get trick or treaters, though I still buy the candy just in case.
Tim (needs lighter): ...and none of you smoke.
Art (looks at armada): Nobody smokes? This is Kentucky, not Sausalito. What's wrong with you people!
(per capita in KY toss a cat u'll hit a smoker! So that's where Justified puts the fiction in the show.)

Yeah, if I buy candy it's stuff we'll eat. But we're good for just about anything chocolate-related (except for Mounds/Almond Joy).

If the coffee is that good, send me some!

Douwe Egberts colour codes their coffee, Aroma Rood means aroma red which is the one most people like. :christmas: there's a dark roast, extra dark roast, mild roast etc etc as well, as for whisky, we actually have a few major distilleries in The Netherlands, some make whisky and rum and other drinks like Jenever and Korenwijn. :christmas:

The whisky that's on the top of my list is a Scottish one though, the Aberlour A'Bunadh, this is a cask strength limited edition whisky, iit usually has an alcohol content of around 60% which makes it hit like a sledgehammer but the taste is incredible, its NOT cheap though, its around 60 Euro's...

My top US whisky/bourbon is the Labrot and Graham Woodford Reserve.
