speaking of Ghosts and completely off-topic: I talked with Ghostie about a new computer. She wants to keep her old one because her favourite games don't run on systems beyond XP. She has no space for 2 computers (and yes I suggested using a KVM switch) but she'd like to have a laptop.
I haven't had a laptop in 30 years so I am not exactly up-to-date. What are your experiences with contemporary laptops? Which would you recommend? Since she'll mainly surf the net and play games it should have a good video card, a big RAM and a reliable browser. As much as possible ought to be pre-installed as Ghostie is a little insecure about installing things herself. I think it might also be a good idea if the laptop could in addition be equipped with a mouse: it's very hard for a mouse-user to get these wipe-over things under control that laptops have nowadays.

It would be easy enough to get a mouse-- that's just a USB plug in.

I'm not sure about the laptop myself. I'm looking for a good one myself that has a good video card to run my 3D animation software, especially one called Moviestorm. Maybe Santaman can help with that.

We definitely don't want to go to Overstock.com, though. I did that the last time and regretted it.

Apparently you want to be careful about laptops and games because the graphics card is basically welded in, and the graphics card needs to be game-oriented to play anything reasonably modern (I see stuttering with perfectly innocuous little Flash games when playing online). I would hope it wouldn't be a problem with older games though.

Yeah, there's a Mom & Pop place around the corner that builds custom machines-- I think I will give them the specs of the software and ask them to make me something that will work.

I tried. :) Niagara used to run through the area, so the rocks are nice and knobbly.

Okay. I've been playing with headbands. Warm ones that cover the ears and most of the head, so good for chilly weather. I've posted one in the Post every time you enter thread, and this one is a different one I did for my granddaughter. I hope to get a picture of it on her when I give it to her.

So, in honor of RJ and his love of a certain beverage, I give you Twisted Tea:

Since we're putting up cute animals. This kitty had been out on our roof for days. The husband kept food and water where it could get at it and he finally got it down today. It is now hiding under his guitar cases, so we don't even know if it's male or female yet. The husband named it Rufie, though I think he would spell it Roofie, but not gonna name a cat that. So Rufie it is. We estimate it to be maybe 3-4 months old.

I have no idea, RJ. Our dog most likely chased it up on the roof to begin with and he wouldn't come down. As I said, it took several days of feeding it and talking to it before it would let the husband get a hand on it to get it down. I do know that it's very skittish and runs and hides if it sees anyone coming down the hallway.

We'll give it a few days and see if one of us can get a hand on it so we can see whether it's male or female. My gut says male since most cinnamon cats I've run across have been male. But I could be wrong.
