aw, thanks Santa and RJ.

RJ, those are a kind of onion...there is a huge number of varietals in the onion family, and of course they're related to garlic so it's a good question.

That is just amazing, as always. It has such a classic feel to it. The composition is a bit reminiscent of Gauguin, while the color scheme has a bit of Van Gogh, especially in the window. This would be right at home in an Art Museum.

ok - usual crap photo of latest painting. My daughter did the pencil sketch on the canvas(and the horse's mane and spots). She worked on this project with me as she really loves her uncle...so the subject arrangement is probably a little different than I might have done, but I think it's OK. Wish I'd had a little more time but I wasted hours struggling with the damn horse's legs as it was, and I needed to get it in the mail by a deadline. This is the guy who just lost his wife and we wanted him to have something protective in his life and to the celts, a white horse is a very powerful motif. I also wanted to project a safe and peaceful place for him....

He is living a very basic life...on disabilty cuz he only has 40% vision due to suffering some strokes after using an infected needle (he used to shoot heroin); the strokes also caused some short-term memory issues which is prolly why he doesn't have a phone...likely ran into arrears and now Bell won't let him have an account. Very sad.... so much promise : athletic, very smart (used to beat me at chess!), good looking, very sweet. (still is that).
I dont know if you have any siblings, but if you do and you love them, you prolly know how much my heart hurts thinking about how his life has turned out. Our dad lives in the same city and pretends my brother doesnt exist. :(

ok, new painting - I'm on a roll! This is acrylic on gessoed wood panel.
I call it "heading home from work". I saw a photo of an exhibit of a sculptural group of men with hats and it made me think if old -school miners returning home after work...

Yeah, it does have a Depression-Era feel to it. I like how you draw attention to the one guy with his height and the texture of his coat; the color scheme is very interesting, too. Nice work. Image

thanks guys! That's exactly the feel is was going for! For some reason I saw it during the 30's hard times, and that's why I tried to give it a somewhat depressed monochromatic treatment. But I also wanted to convey tham as being tired after working, yes, but faintly smiling at the thoughts of going home - and of having jobs to go home from.

thanks Santa- it's not great - but we had one day to do this instead of two weeks, which we should have had - and instead of having a live model we had to work from a 4 in. print-out. LOL!! So it is what it is, which is better than what they had foisted on them by this rediculous woman who calls herself the "set decorator" (NOT a member of the theatre - dont even know if she even goes to the plays) yet has never once picked up a paint brush for this production! Well, now the Director knows for next time.....and so do I.
