Sylen waited while the former captives got themselves ready and armed with borrowed weapons off their crewmates who had brought a few extra weapons along for this purpose. Though the question wasn't directed at him, Sylen answered Djo's question. "The plan is for us to get the hell out of here fast." He kept his voice raised so everyone in the room could hear him. "We cut a hole into the hull a couple corridors over, so that is our extraction point. Let's go." He wasn't sticking around to see if the alien that had talked to Pedras was coming back.

So without further ago he took point as the other mercs got into formation and led the way out of the lab through the door that they'd come in by. Further down the corridor were a small group of the aliens in envirosuits who opened fire on them with their wrist mounted stun weapons. They didn't prove much of a contest for Sylen and the mercenaries and within a minute they were all dead. "This way." Sylen spoke to his team and led them down another corridor to where the hole in the hull was. Logan had deployed a couple anti-personnel turrets either side of the hole, and there was a small pile of alien bodies on the floor of the corridor. But the turrets didn't shoot Sylen and the team as they were programmed not to fire on humanoid targets.

But just as the team approached the hole and Sylen was just about to call up to them, more envirosuited alien arrived from an open door at the far end of the corridor in heavier numbers than they'd encountered on their way back. Instantly Sylen dropped down behind one of the mini-fences Logan had deployed along the corridor to be used as cover. He didn't need to give the order to shoot these aliens trying to stop them escaping, so he aimed his assault rifle and began shooting at them.

OOC: Okay rescue team, as promised, go nuts on these aliens. They can come down the corridor towards you, or come up from behind you the way you just came.

Sophie watched Akraya's flight whilst carefully keeping herself crouched down low behind the metal guards that protected the control station she was next to. She was still and patient, giving absolutely no indication that she was there and was glad Jessan was doing the same. She smiled when Akraya dropped the first bomb down the first vent, but frowned as her attempt to reach the second was prevented due to alien laser fire.

So Sophie waited until the Ariesse lined herself up to make another approach, then her own lasers shot out and killed two of the aliens trying to shoot Akraya. The third lost the arm that had the stun weapon on it as her laser pistol cut the arm clean off. The remaining two aliens successfuly got behind cover before Sophie could finish them off. However her tactics had the desired effect as it had given Akraya plenty of time to finish her second bombing run.

Kellen took the laser gun that Daxia handed him after she released him. Then he lined up in formation towards the rear of the group and he grinned in satisfaction when Sylen mowed down a small group of aliens. But then they ran into a bigger group once they reached the airlock. Thankfully there were turrets to help them as the shooting began. Kellen crouched down behind one of the walls, then he raised up and started shooting down aliens.

Then he yelped when a laser beamed past him, and he turned to see aliens coming from the way they had just run. Thankfully the aim was off, and he started shooting at that group, felling them almost as fast as they were trying to advance, forcing them to find some kind of cover.

**********************

Jessan watched from where he was crouching as Akraya dropped the first bomb perfectly, but then she had to make another run with the second bomb when aliens arrived and started firing on her. Before he could provide covering fire, Sophie had already killed some and sent the others scurrying for cover. Best he could do was keep them pinned down while Akraya made her next run. And he did.

*********************

T'Sarrina stayed with Sylen as they hurried towards the airlock, only to find a large group of aliens blocking them. Sylen had already cleared away a small group, so they sent a larger one. They were clearly not accustomed to people who could take them out so easily, so now they were trying to overwhelm them with numbers. She started shooting into the group, covering Sylen, then she had to turn and help Kellen with the group coming up behind them. These aliens were stubborn, but their group was even more stubborn and better-armed.

Akraya had been about to call for help when she saw Sophie move and take out several of the aliens who'd been firing on her. She took the opportunity the captain had provided to swoop in and deposit her second bomb, then wheeled in the direction of the two remaining aliens.

Now that they were busy with Jessan and Sophie, they seemed to be ignoring her, so she whirled around behind them and switched to the pistols. Angling her body so the weapons were pointing down at the walkway, she opened fire, performing a strafing run - she'd seen examples of this in her examinations of alien flying craft, though the Ariesse had never needed the tactic.

The beauty of the run was that you didn't need to be too accurate, you just started at some point before you reached your enemy's position on the ground, and kept firing as you went overhead. The aliens didn't dare run for cover, as they'd be in full view of the two humans, so they were caught in a crossfire.

Akraya's burst of weapons fire lasted only a second or so before the laser beams found their targets, and the remaining two aliens were dead on the ground. She circled back toward the captain and Jessan once she was sure nothing else was attacking, and landed beside them, ready to return to Firestorm.

***

Pedras took the pistol he was offered by the rescue squad, and fell in behind Sylen. The first ambush passed without undue problems for the mercenaries, but just as they reached the hatch, another band of aliens came down the corridor in both directions.

Turning to provide cover fire at the team's rear, Pedras sought cover in the nearest alcove, and started shooting.

Crimson checked the shotgun and watched Djo take postion near him.
While not his automatic gun this smaller model was still a 12 shot menace, the red malfuctioning eye glowed and like a machine he walked to the airlock and took his place at the first piece of cover he could find and started to shoot at the aliens, Djo found a place to take cover at the other side of the corridor and opened up with his pistol.

"I'm not going to let a single one get away!" Growled Crimson.

Djo nodded and ducked when the aliens shot back.

"Aliens nasty persons." He grinned while shooting them in the legs.

When the rescue team met the first group of aliens, Daxia helpfully assisted Sylen and the others dispatch them. The second group of aliens attempting to prevent them getting back through the hole in the hull back into the Firestorm was considerably larger. But that particularly phaze her. Inwardly she had been absolutely seething inside for the chance to kill more of the aliens that had kidnapped Kellan.

So she was glad more had shown up. Daxia's expression contorted in rage and hate as she lifted her laser assault rifle and set it to auto rapid fire similar to a machine gun. Many of the aliens died in the first brutal wave of laserfire. Between herself and Djo it was a scene of utter carnage and twisted broken crystalline bodies.

It was then she became aware of a few aliens had snuck up behind them, but she trusted Kellen and Pedras to keep them under control so she adjusted her position behind one of the deployable metal shields Logan had obviously left out earlier from them and resumed mercilessly gunning down more aliens bearing down on their position.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sylen was quite comfortable where he was, crouched down between one of the lower deployable metal shields in the corridor. He mostly opted to stay out of Crimson and Daxia's way since they were wreaking absolute havoc on the enemy with their weapons. He just stayed with T'Sarrina. When more aliens started arriving from the rear Sylen just stayed where he was and picked off any aliens his fellow mercenaries missed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Good job Akraya, that was really some very impressive flying and self control there." Sophie complimented her once she'd landed next to her and Jessan. As she had predicted Akraya had done far better in maneouvering, judging the situation, delivering the bombs and dealing with the two other aliens than any drone or flying device most mercenary groups would have had to work with if they'd chosen a plan like this.

She was also very proud in Akraya herself who was learning fast and exceeding the Captain's expectations in some ways. "Our job is done so we'll start back to the Firestorm for now. Lets see if we can at least try to be stealthy for part of the way at least. Sophie indicated to a nearby ventilation shaft that headed in the general vicinity of where they wanted to go. She went over and scanned both the cover and vent for enemy scanners or traps but only found a crude detection system which she was able to shut down.

Then without further ado Sophie glanced around to make sure there were no other aliens around, then climbed into the small, slightly dusty vent as she waited for the other two to join her. The vent probably wouldn't take them all the way back to the Firestorm but it might provide a shortcut and a means of evading detection for awhile. Or at least that's what she hoped.

Jessan was very proud of the way Akraya took the initiative in strafing the two hidden aliens. Then Sophie suggested they use the vents to slip back to the Firestorm and he agreed. He slid into the vent after her and crawled behind her after she disabled the crude sensors. Hopefully they could get close enough to get back to their ship and get out of there.

*******************

T'Sarrina smiled at Sylen as he stayed close to her while she and Kellen kept the aliens behind them from advancing their position. She left Kellen to do most of the shooting, as he had been the injured party, along with Crimson and Pedras. And those two were doing a very good job, along with Daxia, of littering the corridor with crystalline alien body parts.

*******************

Kellen couldn't help but feel an immense pride in the way Daxia was taking out the aliens in front of them and seamlessly switching to the aliens to their rear. He had taken out quite a few of them, with Pedras and T'Sarrina helping. Hopefully they could clear a path and board their ship soon and get the hell out of there. His tail twitched from side to side as he continued to shoot any alien who dared stick their heads out of their hiding places.

Akraya tried not to let the two humans see her nerves as she clambered into the shaft after Captain Guerrin. She'd become used to the crawlways on the Firestorm, but this was unknown territory, in low light, most likely - why keep a normally-unused vent fully lit and accessible?
She'd told the captain about the Ariesse tendency to claustrophobic reactions, so she knew they wouldn't be here unless it was the best way to get back to the ship. Taking deep breaths, she began inching her way along the tunnel.

***

Pedras continued providing Kellen with cover fire, so he could be the powerhouse behind the point defence the team were now enacting. He backed up toward the hatch, allowing Logan enough time and space to hand him an extra pistols.

Then he let his frustration loose, dropped his midlimbs to the ground, and charged at the aliens Kellen was already slaughtering, firing to either side to catch any who scattered out of the way.

Once he'd made a full pass through the mass, he turned and repeated the process, avoiding hitting his team-mates or their shields, then took up his position next to Kellen in case another wave came.

"Lots of those bastards around." Hissed Crimson while he kept shooting at the aliens.

Djo nodded and reloaded his ancient handgun again, he then noticed Logan who was handing out laser weapons, he managed to get two laser SMG's from the man of which one he gave to Crimson.

"No, only one, you greedy man, Djo needs one, ammo gone for gun." Djo grinned when Crimson wanted to take both the weapons.

"Fine! Now keep shooting." Crimson grinned putting down the shotgun for a while, he adjusted the sight of the SMG and opened up on the aliens keeping the shotgun ready if things got too hairy.

After crawling far enough into the vent so that the others could fit in with her and close the vent behind them, Sophie sought out Akraya's eyes and smiled comfortingly at her. She also gently reached back to one hand to place her hand against what should be her shoulder joint if she were humanoid. "Don't worry." She whispered. "This won't take long and we're keeping you safe." Sophie gave what she hoped would be effective comfort before turning back the vent ahead of her and crawling along at the quickest shuffle she could manage. Being a bit smaller the Ariesse had it easier than the two humans who were barely small enough to fit around some bends.

But eventually the three mercenaries began to hear both crystalline scuttering around in the vents around them and the sound of hard, heavy, intense battle ahead of them. Sophie knew that they were close to where the Firestorm had cut a hole in the hull-very close. Just around the corner, out of the vent then a walk down the next corridor. She smiled grimly as she crawled to the exit. The mercenaries were using up a lot of bullets-she hoped that meant that they were winning.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The battle ended quickly when there were a pair of immense booms, one shortly following the other as the bombs detonated deep in the intake vents that they had been lodged in since Akraya deposited them. The timers had worn down to give the sabotage team plenty of time to get away from the generator room and its immediate vicinity. Neither explosion could destroy the mothership entirely, nor rip through the main hull after the emergency bulkheads around the engineering section had been emergency-sealed by the computer. But a moment after the bulkheads sealed the explosions had their desired effect as all power was suddenly cut throughout the mothership.
Daxia had almost been thrown off her feet by the two shockwaves that passed through the ship. Sylen had been better prepared and kept his, holding on to his mate too. Then her feet and even her tail left the deck entirely as the corridor went dark and the artificial gravity failed. "Hah, nice going sabotage team." She crowed triumphantly as she flicked on her wristlight and shone it to where the aliens had been shooting. They weren't anymore-indeed they were clawing away at the artificial gravity in a vain attempt to get away from the mercenaries faster. She watched them go. "We can't stay here long." She told the others. "Without life support switched on this corridor is going to get cold and airless quickly." She glanced up through the hole in the hull at Logan. "Lucky we got our ship right here."
"Thanks," Akraya answered as she followed the two humans along the tunnel. Then she remained quiet until they heard the sounds of a fierce battle up ahead. "Sounds like they're not holding back," she whispered.
Then, just as the captain opened the vent, the bombs went off, leaving the whole area in total darkness, no gravity, and rapidly decreasing temperature. Akraya tried to push herself from the vent, but forgot that she didn't have anything holding her down right now, and ended up shooting past the captain into the corridor.
An involuntary squawk of surprise and self-annoyance was her immediate response, followed by a thud as she hit the ceiling. Stunned momentarily, she was already away from any kind of handhold before she could take action.
***
Pedras was unprepared for the explosions, though he was fairly stationary right now, so he didn't go flying off in any particular direction. Instead, he used the laser pistols he'd been given as pistons to push him along the corridor back to Firestorm's hatch, and pulled himself inside, feeling gravity tug him to the deck once more.
Daxia yelped in surprise when the explosions rang out and almost knocked her off her feet. However she adjusted the position of her feet and legs and spread her tail slightly so that she stayed upright. But then the lights and gravity went out unexpectedly but held her body still so although she floated gently off the deck she didn't go flying anywhere. She stopped firing in the same moment and hung there for a fraction of a second before she reached out to a support strut with her tail and anchored herself down. Then she was free to flick on her wrist light to see what the aliens were up to. The vast majority were dead-splintered chunks of crystal, metal and envirosuit shreds up ahead floating aimlessly in the corridor.
The movements she could see were less than a handful of the aliens desperately trying to scramble away in the zero-g conditions. Dismissing them as a threat Daxia holstered her assault rifle and secured all her weapons and gear. "Come on..." She paused when she saw movement and watched as Akraya seemed to shoot out of one of the vents further down the corridor, but before she could go to help she could see the Captain launching herself after her apprentice.
Daxia smiled and continued her sentence. "Kellen. Let's go inside." She angled herself alongside him, got ahold of him and the two of them propelled themselves towards the Firestorm's airlock after Pedras. She kept ahold of Kellen while they righted themselves and felt gravity return and pull them to the deck as they passed through the airlock.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sylen was also unprepared for the jolting explosions that shook the ship, followed by the light and gravity cutting out. He had been watching the corridor behind the group after finishing off the few aliens that had thought to circle around and try to catch the mercs from behind. Nevertheless the jolts knocked him off his feet and he would have hit the deck if the gravity hadn't cut out. As it was he was floating almost horizontal in complete darkness.

Had he been able to see he would have envied a Mikoatty's superior agility and balance as Daxia kept her feet. As an experienced spacer and ex-military, Sylen's training kicked in, so he stayed frozen in one position to prevent himself from accidentally launching himself anywhere 'til he could get his bearings. By the time he'd done that, flicked on his wrist light and uprighted himself, Pedras, Daxia and Kellen were already passing into the Firestorm's airlock. He glanced around for T'Sarrina to check she was all right.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sophie was assessing the battle a little further up ahead from the vent between her mercenaries and the aliens. Her pleasure and satisfaction of seeing them winning with barely an injury was short lived as two explosions jolted the mothership. Being within a ventiilation shaft prevented her from being thrown anywhere, and she held onto the vent she'd been opening when the light and gravity cut out whilst she was opening it. Just as she was reaching for her wrist light, she felt something brush past her. It wasn't until she heard a squawk near the ceiling and a thud soon after that Sophie realised what had happened.
She flicked on her wrist light and searched the ceiling until she saw Akraya floating against said ceiling. "Oh dear." She remarked to Jessan before gathering herself and launching herself up to Akraya, bracing one arm against the ceiling to balance herself. "Are you okay?" She asked in a worried tone as she grabbed a strap of the Ariesse's harness so she couldn't go flying away anywhere again. In her peripheral vision she could see other wristlights of the rest of the crew but most of her focus was on Akraya.
Kellen yelped in surprise when the explosions rocked the mothership, and he instinctively positioned his body much as Daxia had done, to stay upright. Then the gravity and lights cut out at the same time and he floated up. His training taught him not to panic in such situations, and he allowed himself to relax as he floated up. He had no wrist light, as his had been taken, along with everything else not attached to him, besides his clothes. But he did see Daxia's face when she activated her light and he was floating near enough to her that he could grab the same beam for support. He saw Sophie going to aid a squawking Akraya, so he smiled at Daxia when she grasped his wrist and towed him towards the Firestorm's airlock. He breathed a sigh of relief when the gravity kicked in just inside, and he bumped gently down to the floor. He then pulled her into a hug and clung to her a bit once they were both safely standing. "Oh, I'm so glad to be off that table."
***************************
T'Sarrina squeaked in surprise when the ship rocked from two explosions. She reached out automatically for something to steady her, and then she started floating upwards once the gravity and lights both went out. Rather than panic, as she might have before she met Sylen, she relaxed and let herself float until she could coil one of her tentacles around a nearby beam. Once she did that, she activated her wrist light and shone its beam around until she saw Sylen and his light, looking around. "I'm over here." She called out to him.
**************************
Jessan wasn't surprised by the blast, or the rocking of the ship, but he did yelp in surprise when Akraya shot out of the vent and headed towards the ceiling. Sophie reacted immediately and went after her, so Jessan carefully made his way down to the airlock, and he sighed in relief when he reached artificial gravity again. He had also seen a handful of aliens scrabbling and trying to get away from them in the weightless atmosphere, not knowing that they weren't going to pursue them, they had what they wanted. The former captives had nearly all made it aboard as well, so he poked his head outside to see if anyone needed a hand to get back inside.
Crimson just managed to stay on his feet when an explosion rocked the ship.
"Guess that is the back to the ship sign?" He said while backing towards the Firestorm slowly
Djo grinned and nodded, he had been leaning against a bulkhead so the explosion had not knocked him over.
"Time to get tea."
The lights suddenly went out and also the gravity field shut down.
Crimson and Djo started to float around.
"Drat!"
"Now really time to go to ship, will not stay nice here."
Crimson and Djo were experienced space mercs and they found the Firestorm's airlock easily, the transition into the gravity field of the ship also went without any problems.
They had been close to the airlock and no took positions near the open hatch to assist anyone who needed it.
"Sorry, Captain," Akraya offered as Sophie secured her for a moment so she could get her bearings. "I guess I need zero-gravity training. I'm unhurt, just a little startled."
She began extending her wings to try to fly back, then felt the ceiling brush her crest. Of course - with no gravity, they had nothing to fight against, so pushing down or up would cause her to move in those directions, rather than forward.
Instead, she extended her wings in front of her, and turned them into scoops. It wasn't anywhere near as efficient, but she'd seen swimmers use the technique underwater on Kaltor, so it should get them back to the airlock in reasonable time. Sophie was still holding her harness to stabilise her, so Akraya put a little extra power into her "swimming" strokes. "Captain, I think I can get back safely, but I don't have much sense of which direction I'm going in zero gravity - can you keep holding on, and warn me if we're getting too close to a bulkhead, please?"
The captain nodded her assent and, together, the duo made their way to the airlock. At Sophie's direction, Akraya angled her last few strokes so they hit the ground just outside of Firestorm's artificial gravity field, from where they could grab onto support struts and pull themselves aboard.
Sophie held on to Akraya and gave her concise directions until they reached the airlock. She grabbed one of the hand rails for support and gently bumped down to the floor as she and Akraya entered the Firestorm and it's gravity field. The others had already made their way safely inside and so without ado she closed the outer airlock behind them, let the airlock itself cycle through before the inner hatch opened and the crew were released out into the corridor.
Finally Sophie concluded by closing and locking both airlock doors so that no alien could attempt to follow them aboard. Sophie turned to the crew before her, just about to issue orders when she saw that Daxia and Kellen were in a deep embrace now that the danger had passed. She took one look at their expressions as they gazed at each other and felt a wave of compassion. She'd have felt the same if it had been Jessan who had been taken. "All right you two." She said with an understanding smile after getting their attention.
"You got the rest of the shift off to reunite. I'm sure we can manage destroying that crippled ship on our own quite well." She assured them. After they acknowledged with gratitude Sophie turned to the others. "Okay unless Crimson or Pedras need medical treatment, the rest of can return to stations please." She instructed.
Sylen waited with both of his longer tentacles coiled around T'Sarrina's. It was a simpler and looser coil than the couple usually preferred but until they were both back in the infirmary it would do. He stood patiently while the airlock cycled and they all moved into the corridors, then waited until Sophie locked both hatches securely. Despite himself a tiny bit of tension went out of Sylen's muscles. They were safe again now.
All that remained was going to the bridge and using the Firestorm's heaviest weaponry to destroy the Mothership while it was crippled without power. Nothing would be working, neither the weapon systems, shields or energy fields. It might take the Firestorm awhile to destroy it all but it would accomplish it in the end. Sylen smiled when the Captain excused Daxia and Kellen from further duties that day.
Sophie's kindness, fairness and compassion were some of the reasons that he worked for her, and would for years to come if he had any say in the matter. "Aye Captain." He answered when she ordered everyone else back to their posts. His was in the infirmary with T'Sarrina so he gazed at her expectantly for her to lead the way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Daxia maintained perfect control over herself and her emotions as she and Kellan made it back inside the Firestorm's airlock. The only sign of her tension perhaps was her slightly quivering tailtip. She kept that control as the airlock when through its cycle and everyone stepped out into the corridor. But the moment she heard Sophie engage those heavy hatch locks, Daxia finally released her emotions. She grabbed Kellen in huge embrace and cuddled him tightly against her.

So close she could feel his heart beating in his chest. She rested her head against his shoulder and her tail coiled tightly and incricately around his. Her whole body trembled as wave of worry, fear, upset, incredible fury, concern and lonliness was washed from her. In its place came great relief, love, reassurance that she really had Kellen back in her arms, then finally came joy and happineses.

She stopped trembling was able to lift her head up and gaze into his eyes. Before she could say anything, Daxia was surprised to hear Sophie giving them the day off. "Th-thank you Captain." She managed though she never took her gaze from Kellen's eyes. "Are you truly all right?" She asked him.

T'Sarrina smiled when the life support cycled and Sophie locked the airlocks once they were all through. Sophie then took one look at Kellen and Daxia and gave them the rest of the shift off. It was a good call, according to the doctor, as both of them had emotions that they needed to work through. She knew she would feel the same if it had been Sylen, so she just smiled back at him once Sophie ordered everyone else back to their stations. For her, it was the infirmary, though it didn't look like she would have any patients. So they would just spend their time as they always did when they didn't have patients, on the sofa simply snuggling each other.

Jessan hadn't had too much trouble making it from the vent to the airlock as he'd been prepared for the artificial gravity and the life support to go out. He'd been waiting for Sophie and Akraya, who were also the last ones to get inside, then their life support cycled and he breathed in deeply as Sophie bolted the airlock shut so the aliens couldn't follow them aboard.

Then Sophie gave Kellen and Daxia the rest of the shift off and had everyone else get to their posts. He went to the bridge to help out since Logan could handle engineering if he had to. Sylaise could pilot well enough and Sophie knew enough about each station to be adequate at them as he did as well.

He didn't blame her one little bit for letting them go, he understood completely what Daxia and Kellen were feeling, he would feel the same way if it had been Sophie who had been taken. He'd have also wanted to rip that ship apart with his bare hands until he found her, too. And right now, his other reason for going to the bridge was to be closer to her, assuring himself she was all right. The fact that it could have easily had been her didn't set well with him at all.

************************

As soon as the life support cycled and Sophie bolted the airlock to keep out unwanted guests, Kellen wrapped his arms around Daxia. He could hardly believe he had her back and he had to just hold her and twine his tail with hers while he held her closely and he couldn't tell who it was who was trembling most, her or him, but it didn't matter. She was holding onto him and he didn't mind at all that she was holding him tightly enough to make breathing just slightly difficult. She could hold him like that for the rest of his life and he wouldn't care.

Then Sophie's voice broke through his thoughts and he heard her giving them the rest of the shift off. He had expected to be taking his station and blasting that humongous ship into tiny little pieces. Suddenly that didn't seem as important as he had once thought and he would even give Crimson the pleasure of that, knowing the big man's tendency to enjoy lots of bloodshed.

Daxia's voice then sounded in his head, thanking Sophie, and then she looked into his eyes and asked him if he was really all right. The worry and concern in her eyes melted him inside and he smiled at her. "I'm fine. Those aliens didn't get more than a few samples off of all of us before you guys stormed through like a hurricane." He then headed for their quarters, keeping one arm around her and his tail twined with hers quite tightly. He doubted he would ever let that tail go for very long, he had missed it so while he'd been strapped to that table. "Although I was a bit worried that they might try to cut my tail off."

Akraya wondered for a moment whether she should head to engineering or the bridge, as Sophie closed the hatch and bolted it firmly shut. Then she gave Kellen and Daxia the rest of the day off.

With Sylaise still in the infirmary, at least as far as Akraya knew, that meant three of the primary crew were away from their stations. Jessan, she saw, was already heading for the bridge, probably to take over one of the primary stations. He hadn't given her any specific orders, and Logan was already heading for engineering, and didn't indicate a need for her help.

Part of her knew she was rationalising her reaction to the tunnels and the sudden loss of power on the alien ship, but she stuffed that part deep inside her, and followed the captain and engineer to the bridge, taking over a subsidiary station to act as an engineering monitor. She was pleased to see they were already in a position to make a quick getaway.

Pedras headed to the bridge as normal, and logged on to the communications station, taking over from Alex, who'd been keeping it running in his absence. He ran a quick check, noting that, to avoid detection, they'd been in zero emission mode since they had "docked" with the mothership.

Crimson shrugged, all he needed was a hot bath and a large amount of food to recover.
"I will need a trip to an eye clinic eventually to fix this bloody thing, I'll have it replaced with a military grade version." He said while pointing at his still red glowing eye.

Djo grinned broadly.
"Will have terminator assistant cook for a while."

Crimson flashed his meanest grin.
"Sure, you should remember those movies, they were in cinnema while you were still young I guess."

Djo looked at his friend and gave him the finger.
"Not give Crimson day off, he peel potatoes for a while."

The two left the airlock bickering which indicated that not much had gotten to Crimson's psyche which was not surprising considering the borderline sociopathic tendencies of the large man.

Sophie glanced at Crimson who informed her that he'd need a trip to an eye clinic. She inclined her head to acknowledge she'd heard him but didn't understand why he wasn't having T'Sarrina fix the eye implant since it was a fairly simple fix. But Crimson and Djo had already started bickering and wandered off. She didn't believe that he was truly unaffected by his captivity for one second but evidently he wanted to deal with it with Djo. And keeping him in the kitchen kept him out of trouble so she nodded agreeably to it as she led the other crewmembers to the bridge with her.

"Good job on thinking to come to the bridge with me, you two." Sophie remarked to Jessan and Akraya as they climbed up a ladder to get between decks. "With Sylaise still in the infirmary, Akraya I think you could take the sensor station. I know its not your field but you know enough to get us through the rest of this situation." She assured her apprentice with complete confidence. "I'll take the pilot station, which also has its own sensor board so I'll be backing you up anyway." She added. "So Jessan I'm going to need you at the weapon station."

Honestly it felt good to have both her mate and her apprentice on the bridge where she could see and hear them-Sophie didn't deny that inwardly as they walked onto the bridge. "We're back, our crew successfully rescued." She announced to Alexander and the other crewmembers who had been manning the major stations. Sophie went over to the pilot chair and climbed in and strapped herself down. "All right then..." She said, half to herself as she began refamiliarizing herself with the controls.

Sylen accompanied T'Sarrina to the infirmary, pleased to see that there hadn't been any new additions to the beds though he wasn't a doctor himself. It was just Stiyl, the plant Genioset nurse and Talia on duty who were taking in turns watching over the unconscious Sylaise in one of the beds. Sylen went down and sat on the sofa so T'Sarrina could join him if she wanted to check on her patient first.

Daxia exhaled slowly in complete and utter relief when Kellen assured her that he was all right. She could hear the truth in his words as clear as a bell and saw that although he had a couple of small bandages where the samples had been taken, otherwise he was strong and healthy. His continued comments that the aliens hadn't had any more time than to take a few sample nearly undid her entirely and unshed tears touched her eyes.

It had seemed to take forever to track him down and join the rescue effort, so long to finally find him strapped to that table. But she-they-had been quick enough to prevent real harm coming to him. It hadn't been long at all really. It was then Daxia noticed they were walking towards their quarters. He'd been guiding her there while she'd been overwhelmed by emotion. She understood. It was a need they both desired from the moment they'd wrapped their arms around each other.

"So then..." She began, with a seductive tone to her voice that Kellen was all too familiar with. "You're truly all right? They didn't damage your....." Daxia trailed off meaningfully as she moved her hand to the front of his trousers and 'examined' in great detail what was under them with her fingers through the loose material.

Jessan smiled when Sophie thanked him and Akraya for coming to the bridge with her. Aside from covering for Kellen, Daxia and Sylaise, he had simply wanted to stay close to her. They hadn't married yet, but he intended to rectify that as soon as possible.

He moved over to weapons when Sophie said that was the station he needed to be at. While he didn't have Kellen's expertise with it, he would be more than adequate to do what they needed to do, which was to turn that gigantic mothership into a pile of scrap and those aliens into piles of crystal shards. "I'm ready when you are." He told Sophie.

*************************************

T'Sarrina walked over to Sylaise and scanned her, then she smiled. "She'll be coming round soon." She told Styl and Talia, then she went to sit with Sylen while the ship was being piloted away from the mothership. She had offered to fix Crimson's eye when they were being rescued, and that was all she could do. He was free to have it replaced wherever he wanted once they were back in known space. Although she was puzzled over why he wouldn't want her to fix it, it was simple and nothing she was incapable of.

************************************

Kellen breathed a sigh of relief when they finally reached their quarters, a sigh that turned into a grunt of pleasure when she gave him one of her saucy grins, asked about...and then thoroughly explored what she'd left unsaid. Thankfully his trousers were loose, because said/unsaid member reacted predictably to her ministrations, and his breathing quickened in response. "Oh, most definitely that particular thing isn't damaged." He then opened the door to their quarters and edged them inside as he grinned at her. "I'll be happy to demonstrate."

"Oh good." Daxia's grin widened when Kellen answered her and edged them both inside their quarters. "Because that there tool is one of my absolute favourite things to play with in the whole universe." She told him as it responded to her examinations. She kicked the door to their quarters shut as soon as they were both safely through, then wrapped one arm around him and kissed him passionately on the lips. Meanwhile her fingers had finished their ministrations-for now-and her hand began roaming its way along his body towards his backside. And all the while Daxia was kissing him, her tail had partially coiled around his and the tip was rubbing against his. For the moment she'd forgotten about everything else except what she was doing with Kellen.

Kellen could only make pleasured sounds once Daxia started kissing him. When her tail coiled around his, he automatically began rubbing the sensitive tip against hers, even as his hands began exploring her body and helping her to divest herself of her clothes. He then put both his hands on her behind and pulled her against him, kissing her and running his hands all over places he knew she liked. This was what he wanted and needed, as badly as she did, apparently, as her hands were exploring places meant to arouse and drive him crazy. And it was working. He was pushing her towards the bed after having lost his clothing in the passion that was only theirs. After that, well...

Akraya nodded as the captain ordered her to take the sensors. She would never have done so of her own accord, not with Sylaise in the infirmary - it would just feel wrong somehow - but with a direct order, she was comfortable moving quickly to the console next to Pedras and running a quick scan.

"I think we hurt them," she commented drily. "I'm seeing huddles of aliens in small rooms, each powered by a low-grade generator. They've got enough power to sustain their population in isolated groups throughout the ship, whilst their engineers are trying to fix the main power generators - though I've got no idea if they'll be able to make those repairs."

She focused the scans a little more, aiming them at the mothership's main core. "As expected, the main core is ruptured in several places - not only where our bombs detonated, but also where shrapnel from the explosions ripped through it. It won't self-destruct the ship, not without some additional assistance from ship's weapons, but... even if Jessan were the engineer, I think it'd take a few days to get it running again."

***

Pedras was running his own scans from the communications console, when he noticed a low-power, low-frequency EM signal that seemed to be coming from inside the ship. He switched to the relevant channel, and listened for a moment.

He could make out scratchy noises in a regular pattern, that sort of sounded like the opening of hailing frequencies, but not much else. Quickly launching a small, near-undetectable probe to act as a relay, he boosted the gain until he could confirm. "Captain, we're being hailed from on board the ship. It's weak, even with a booster relay, but I think I can establish communications. Should we respond?"

Pedras himself was in two minds. On the one hand, the crew had been captured and tortured. On the other... given what Akraya had said, they had the aliens over a barrel. There wasn't much chance of violent retaliation.

***

Akraya glanced over at Pedras, a little surprised - she hadn't expected the aliens to attempt communication, not when they could have tried before and didn't. Culturally, she was predisposed to answer the hail and communicate, but the captain already knew that from her accidental recitation of the Chant of the Warrior before they'd boarded. Nothing would be gained by her commenting right now, so she stayed silent, instead trying to focus sensors on the area Pedras had indicated. It seemed to be close to the bay the crew had been held in, a fact which she quickly passed on to Pedras, in case it meant anything, by console-to-console text message.

***

Pedras realised with a jolt that this could well be the alien he had established communication with before, as he saw Akraya's message, but he didn't pass this on to the captain. It was by no means certain, and even if it was, there was no telling if he saw the assault as a betrayal by Pedras, or if he was simply trying to surrender.
