Well, at least he's found a good home even if you never find his people.
Re: A New Picture Thread
Definitely, he's found a good home. He's slowly starting to trust us, but still bolts very easily. We're just taking it one day at a time.

You should get him a little stuffed animal to sleep with. If he has a little friend his own size, he might come along faster.

white asparagus. I always buy the broken ones - they are much cheaper. These are just the tips.RJDiogenes wrote:^^ That looks tasty. What are the things on the right and left, next to the eggs?

Here are some pictures from today down at Nowell Park:
An artsy view of the lake.
My first successful Pano!
Mom.
A tiny frog.
And a successful Pano of the woods behind Mom's house.

Lovely panoramas! Your mom looks rather fragile in this picture. Has she been ill lately or is she just the delicate type? Or maybe it's just an unfortunate angle?
My mom hates having her picture taken so that we always have to sneak up to her with the camera. Hence most of our pics are of her backside . This one was taken 5 years ago on the island of Ischia

Thank you.huggle wrote:Lovely panoramas!
She's actually in great shape. She just looks like that because she's prone to anxiety.Your mom looks rather fragile in this picture. Has she been ill lately or is she just the delicate type? Or maybe it's just an unfortunate angle?
Nice picture. My Mother's the same way. I took three or four pictures of her Saturday and that was the best one. It's not easy to sneak up on someone that jumpy. My mom hates having her picture taken so that we always have to sneak up to her with the camera. Hence most of our pics are of her backside . Re: A New Picture Thread
LOL I can imagine. My mom isn't jumpy but she appears to have eyes in the back of her head. Sneaking up to her with a camera is about as easy as catching a pushmi-pullyu.

Hah. The pushmi-pullyu is one of my earliest reading memories.
Re: A New Picture Thread
my sis recently rediscovered my very first book: Hannibal and Esmeralda. A Danish childrens book about two cats. and - good lord! - it's still (or again) available at Amazon http://www.amazon.de/Hannibal-Esmeralda ... B0000BHX3M

You should get it. Nothing like revisiting childhood memories.
Re: A New Picture Thread
oops, badly phrased. I meant that my sister found my book at the bottom of some long-forgotten toy crate. After so many years it was a bit damaged but I think I can repair it.

Oh, nice. My Mother found some of my old childhood books a few years ago, including Big Max, Artie The Smartie, and-- believe it or not-- Two Stories About Ricky.

I still own a book that an aunt gave me when I was four:
"The Griffin and the Minor Canon" written by Frank Stockton, illustrated by Maurice Sendak.

"Stuck. What it is, I think there's a jump some people have to make, sometimes, and if they don't do it, then they're stuck good ... Some jumps you have to decide on for yourself. Just figure there's something better waiting for you somewhere ..."
Re: A New Picture Thread
thanks for the inspiration =) I'll put all of those on my wishlist for Christmas. I love children's books. They reveal a lot about the way a people thinks. They present all the values and virtues of a country in a nutshell.

Not my pics but if you ever wondered what a WW2 bomb looks like after 70 years in the soil, have a look here: http://www.br.de/nachrichten/oberpfalz/ ... d7ec0.html
The pics show a 500 lbs bomb found in Regensburg yesterday, the team that defused it and the disassembled fuse.
It's estimated that still some 100,000 of these lie around in Germany. Wikipedia gives an average of 15 found and defused per day so that the prob will keep future generations busy. Unfortunately, many of these UXOs have chemical fuses and with the isolating material slowly corroding, the chance of a sudden explosion rises. Particularly nasty if it's a phosphorus-bomb.

Re: A New Picture Thread
Yikes. Too bad the explosive don't corrode like the fuses.
Re: A New Picture Thread
I couldn't agree more. Landmines are even worse: while normally they need a certain weight to get triggered, when they get submerged they go off at the slightest touch. As most borders are streams or rivers and these gradually change their path, a lot of mines end up in riverbeds.
Tomorrow I'll post a few pics I took last Friday: I visited a huge water power plant and coincidentially they had removed a turbine for repairs. So I could climb down a shaft to the riverbed and actually stand within the turbine case where usually the water thunders through =) Totally cool! I hope the pics turned out well (I didn't get around yet to take a look).

That sounds like a great experience.
Speaking of rivers, here's a Pano of the Charles in Cambridge from last Sunday:
And I made an interesting discovery in Harvard Square:
I wonder if I have tenure.

I'd sue them for copyright infringement. With a little luck they'll have to pay you millions and you won't have to work anymore for the rest of your life

I'd settle for a modest stipend of $100k per year.
