A warning about the Democrats push to end the filibuster.
There is a lot of short-sighted thinking among Democrats right now and the ill-advised push to end the filibuster is one of them.

Left-Wingers have a Black Belt in self sabotage. They're also moving ahead with their Supreme Court-packing plan. :wtf:

^Which is also ill-advised as the Republicans will either pack more in or reverse it when they take control in a little over 3 years.

The most depressing thing is that 100 million Americans describe themselves as Evangelical

Makes sense. Religion is basically a conspiracy theory.

Yeah, but they're not all off the wall about it. To most of them it's just their chosen religion.

James Carville gives some advice to Democrats on the future.
And for the most part nails it.

Good for him. I've heard him make similar remarks before and I hope somebody is listening. And he's right enough as far as he goes, but the problem is that Wokeness goes beyond just terminology and marketing. The thing is that it's a religion and its followers believe what they say just as much as QAnon nuts do. The political correctness, the identity politics, "colored people," cultural appropriation, defunding the police, reparations, segregation, fetishism, misogyny, and on and on-- all driven by the desperate need to be holier than thou. That's what alienates people and gets lunatics like The Donald into office.

At least the left-leaning people want to save the planet, unlike the righties who are in total denial about the unspeakable damage we've done to the planet. So the lefties may be crazy but I think their aims (if not their strategy to achieve their aims) are worthy ones.

I'm sure most Left Wingers think they are the good guys and most Right Wingers think they are the good guys-- everybody's the hero of their own story. Unfortunately, most ideologues really have the exact same motivation-- the warm comfy feeling of moral superiority.

Amazing how a man who was the hero of 9/11 in NYC could fall so far into greed and corruption. It's the Great American success story.

In the same vein as the James Carville article, here is some good reporting on Cancel Culture. It's a relief to see some influential persons like Jimmy Kimmel stepping up to point blank state that this stuff just drives Right-Wing recruitment and provides them with ammunition.

That's a good article. Some people do deserve to be cancelled, but many don't, including Dr. Seuss. It's a nuanced issue, not a binary all-or-nothing, hero or villain issue.

Plus, LeVar Burton made a good point: "It's not a cancel culture, it's a consequence culture." There should be consequences for spouting racist bullshit or behaving in a racist way.

I wonder how many generations it will take for all these issues to get resolved? I'm guessing at least another hundred years.

Weirdly Dr. Seuss wasn't cancelled, they merely announced that some books would no longer be printed... books that really haven't seen much printing in decades anyway. So they did kind of walk themselves into that controversy.

Or ever. The article mentions the Salem Witch Trials and the Blacklist- both of which could be considered "Cancelling".

History repeats itself because human nature is consistent. The only thing that changes are the slogans and buzzwords.

I saw another interview with James Carville on CNN. He's fast becoming the Mitt Romney of the Left.

The problem is when people suffer the consequences when they don't spout racist bullshit or behave in a racist way, or because they lived in a prior century, just because some cellar dweller wants to look kewl on social media.

Yeah, about. If the Left Wingnuts decided to make a return to Liberalism tomorrow, it would probably take about a human lifetime to undo the damage they've done so far. And I really don't think they're smart enough to return to Liberalism. I think we have to hope that the next generation is smarter.

I agree that some people don't deserve to be cancelled. But I'd maintain that some do.

Of course. And they always have been. There's nothing new about that. What's new is this religious crusade where they constantly invent new ways to be racist and sexist so that they can get everybody. What's new is tearing down statues of Abraham Lincoln and John Wayne. What's new is undermining the foundations of liberalism under the pretense of social justice. The more ridiculous and dangerous they become, the more they empower the Right Wing by giving them unlimited free ammunition. This is how The Donald got elected to begin with and it's how he or someone like him will get elected the next time.

I was a little surprised at that, actually, but I got a good laugh out of it. I'm hoping that at some point these setbacks will just make his head finally explode and we won't have to worry about him anymore.
