That's very interesting indeed. Previously, Earth-based instruments and satellites have detected seasonal (namely Springtime) blooms of methane on Mars. Underground single-celled critters are exactly what I'd expect to find on Mars, so this is very compelling evidence. And if their methane is leaking up through the ground, they can't be too very far down there. That makes it seem more possible that even a rover could find more concrete evidence if they can make it to the source.

I suspect Martian cows to be the source of the methane. The cows could be on the planet's surface, hidden somewhere, or they could be subterranean cows. Sort of like the Horta in Star Trek.

But think about whether Martian milk would be either green, or red. Would you drink it?
